Vikings top MACCRAY behind Jerzak, Antony’s HRs

MINNEOTA — Jayla Jerzak and Courtney Antony each homered for the Minneota/Canby softball team on Tuesday, leading the Vikings in their 16-2 Camden Conference rout of MACCRAY via five-inning mercy rule.
Leading 3-0 entering the second, Emily Walker hit a triple and scored when Joelle Otto reached on an error. Mckenzie Bednarek hit another triple to drive in Otto, and Jerzak followed up with a two-run inside-the-park homer.
It didn’t take long after Jerzak’s four-bagger for the Vikings to get back on the scoreboard again. Facing a full count in the next at-bat, Antony belted a ball over the left field wall for a solo homer, capping off the six-run inning with a 9-0 lead.
Madison Hennen pitched all five innings of the win, striking out 10 batters while limiting the Wolverines to three hits, a walk and two unearned runs. She also logged a triple, a double and a single as a batter.
Minneota took its first lead of the day in the first. Bednarek walked and Jerzak singled, setting the table for a two-run go-ahead triple by Antony. Antony then scored when Allison Vanwatermeulen hit another triple in the ensuing at-bat.
Minneota/Canby added another three runs in each of the third and fourth innings, with MACCRAY snapping the shutout with th help of some errors in the top of the fourth.
Minneota/Canby improves to 17-5 on the season and now awaits seeding for the Section 3AA tournament starting on May 19.

ORTONVILLE — Gretchen Lanoue threw a complete-game shutout for the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton softball team and her bats backed her up, going off for seven runs in the second inning as the Panthers rolled to an 11-0 win over Ortonville in five innings.
Lanoue struck out eight batters over her time on the mound, giving up just two hits and two walks. She also logged a double at the plate.
TMB led 3-0 after the first but started to pull away in the second. Avery Torgeson was hit by a pitch and Rachel Vang singled to put two runners on, and back-to-back RBI singles from Braelynn Kirk and Melaina Ankrum helped the Panthers build momentum.
Alli Dolan kept the ball rolling with a two-run double before Ortonville retired back-to-back batters, but Bella Martinez and Lexi Brey were hit by pitches when Dolan scored on a passed ball. Torgeson then capped off the rally with a two-run triple.
Kirk and Ankrum each had a pair of hits for the Panthers, and Kirk also drew a walk. Dolan, meanwhile, finished with a game-high three RBIs.
Kirk drew a walk in the game’s first at-bat and promptly scored on an Ankrum triple. Dolan then drove in Ankrum with a ground out, and Lanoue doubled before scoring on an Aliyah Loftness single to bring the score to 3-0.
Kirk singled in the fifth and scored on an error to give TMB one last insurance run.
The Panthers get back to .500 at 9-9 with the win and close out the regular season by hosting Renville County West for a doubleheader on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

NEW ULM — The Marshall softball team wasn’t able to get any momentum going in its Tuesday matchup against New Ulm in Big South Conference play. Some early errors put the Tigers in an early hole, giving up 16 first-inning runs, and New Ulm added four more in the third to wrap up the game’s scoring.
Sara Dallman and Natalya Reed each contributed a pair of hits for the Tigers in the game, including a double for Dallmann, and Jenniger Lee also reached base twice with a single and a walk.
Dallmann was tagged with the loss for Marshall, giving up two earned and six unearned runs while getting one out. Alissa Moen got another out in relief, giving up eight earned runs, and Lee pitched the final 2 1/3 frames, surrendering one earned run and three unearned runs.
Marshall falls to 5-14 and wraps up its season on the road at Luverne on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
