Tigers earn five All-Conference nods at BSC championship

MORTON — Five Tigers were named to the Big South All-Conference team following the Big South Conference Boys Golf Championship meet on Tuesday at Dacotah Ridge Golf Club. The Tigers finished third as a team in the meet, led by a pair of top-10 finishes.

Marshall finished with a team score of 353, placing third in the field of 14 behind St. Peter’s 321 and New Ulm’s 342. Marshall also finished second in overall points for the season behind St. Peter.

Deacon Wing, Elijah Winn, Ethan Wendorff, Keegan Fossum and Jaylen Koster all earned All-Conference honors for Marshall.

Wing was the Tigers’ top performer in the meet, placing fifth out of 84 golfers with a 10-over 82. He was particularly strong on the front 9, holing a pair of birdies for a 2-over at the turn.

Winn, a Freshman for Marshall, also placed seventh for Marshall, shooting a 13-over 85 with seven pars.

Wendorff was Marshall’s No. 3 scorer for the day with a 92, and Fossum and Koster tied for 22nd with a 94. Fossum is the lone senior in Marshall’s top 6.

While not included in the team score, Carter Manthei also put together a solid round to finish in the top half of the field, shooting a 26-over 98 to place 39th.

St. Peter had three of the top four individuals, led by Isaiah Homrighausen’s 77, Owen Matejcek’s 78 and Kade Mata’s 80. New Ulm accounted for another three of the top 7, with Asher Wendinger tying Matejcek for second and Brandt Munson and Colton Anderson shooting an 84 and 85 to place sixth and seventh, respectively.

Marshall now prepares for the Section 3AA tournament at Oakdale Golf Club in Buffalo Lake. The first day of the two-day tournament is slated for Thursday, May 21 at 9 a.m. Marshall placed third in last year’s section tournament, with Deacon Wing qualifying for the state meet as an individual with an eighth-place finish and Winn finishing just outside the cut in 13th.
