Amateur baseball roundup May 4, 2026
SLEEPY EYE — Trevor Smith pitched four strong innings and drove in three runs in the Milroy Irish’s season-opener against Sleepy Eye on Sunday. The Tigers picked up steam with a nine-run fifth inning and held on from there for a 14-2 mercy-rule win in seven innings.
Smith threw the first four innings to earn the win, striking out six batters while giving up fur hits and a pair of walks. He also logged a double, a single, a walk and drove in three runs.
Tyler Peterson, Noah Knakmuhs and Anthony Dolan each also drove in three runs on the day, coming on two singles and a walk for Peterson and Knakmuhs, and on a triple and a walk for Dolan.
Knakmuhs led off the Irish’s big fifth inning with a single before the Indians retired each of the next two Irish batters. Yet, the wheels fell off the Wagon for Sleepy Eye from there.
Moses Dolan was hit by a pitch and Dominic Dolan walked to load the bases. Trevor Smith capitalized with a three-run double, and after a Derek Smith single, Peterson scored Trevor on an RBI single.
Carson Javers was hit by a pitch to reload the bases in the frame and Knakmuhs walked again to force across a run. Anthony Dolan then hit a three-run triple and Tyler Alcorn hit an RBI single to cap off the nine-run frame.
Craig Lasley pitched two innings of relief for the Irish, giving up one unearned run on a hit and a walk with a pair of strikeouts. Peterson closed out the game with a scoreless seventh inning, surrendering a pair of hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Derek Smith scored the game’s first run when he doubled and scored on a Peterson single in the first. The Irish added four more runs in the fourth on a pair of bases-loaded walks to Peterson and Javers and a two-run double by Knakmuhs to bring the score to 5-0.
Sleepy Eye scored a run in the fourth and fifth but wasn’t able to generate enough momentum to extend the game.
Milroy improves to 1-0 and hosts Raymond for its home opener on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Hadley 8, Renner 0
RENNER, S.D. — Bryce Ahrendt, Trevin Prins and Skyler Fiekema pitched a combined shutout for the Hadley Buttermakers on Sunday, helping the team pick up an 8-0 non-conference win over the Renner Rangers to start the season.
Ahrendt threw the first pair of innings for Hadley, holding Renner without a hit, walk or run while striking out a pair of batters. Prins picked up the win after throwing the next three shutout innings of relief, striking out six batters while giving up a hit and a walk, while Fiekema also held the Rangers without a walk, hit or run over the final two innings.
Hadley scored a pair of runs in each of the first three innings, and it added two more in the fifth for good measure.
Derek Kluis drove in three runs for the Buttermakers, and Tucker Sorensen, Jakob Olson and Austin Irlbeck each drove in a run on one hit.
Hadley improves to 1-0 on the year and next hosts Fox Lake for its home opener on Sunday at 2 p.m.
