Prep baseball roundup May 11, 2026

MCC 5, Dawson-Boyd 3

DAWSON — Krew Schneider’s ninth-inning home run gave the Murray County Central baseball team a win in its tightest game of the season so far. Dawson-Boyd forced the Rebels into extra innings in the Monday night non-conference matchup, but the Rebels shut the Blackjacks down in the eighth and ninth to claim a 5-3 win to remain undefeated.

Tied at three runs apiece, MCC left two runners stranded in the eighth but retired the Blackjacks in order in the bottom of the frame. An inning later, Tristan Behrends reached on an error and, with two outs and trailing 1-2 in the count, Schneider belted a homer over the left-field wall to give MCC a 5-3 edge.

In the bottom of the frame, Schneider struck out the first two batters of the inning and recovered from a walk with a pop out to pick up the win.

Schneider finished the day with a home run, a single and three RBIs. As a pitcher, he threw three shutout innings of relief, striking out six batters while holding the Blackjacks to a walk with no hits.

Teague Meyer threw the first six innings for the Rebels, striking out 11 batters and giving up one earned run on five hits and a walk.

MCC trailed 3-2 heading into the seventh, but Gabe Tentinger hit a leadoff double, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a Carter Hanson sacrifice fly to force the game into extras.

Colton Bothun pitched the first 6 2/3 innings for MCC, allowing three earned runs on nine hits and a walk in the no-decision. He also struck out six batters.

In relief, Kameron Sather gave up a pair of unearned runs on three hits over 2 1/3 frames.

Holland Schacherer led Dawson-Boyd at the plate with a double, a single, a walk and an RBI. He scored the game’s first run for Dawson-Boyd when he led off the second with a double and scored when Aedyn Dahl laid down a bunt and reached base on an error.

Dawson-Boyd doubled its lead an inning later. Kyan Moseng was hit by a pitch before Meyer struck out the next two batters, but Moseng advanced to third on a Nathan Hansen single and scored on another single from Schacherer.

MCC fought its way back into the game when Dugan Kluis drew a leadoff walk and scored on a Schneider single to center field. Carson Lewis then singled home Schneider for the tying run.

Kluis, Schneider and Kluis each recorded a pair of hits for MCC, as well as a walk for Kluis.

MCC remains perfect at 14-0 with the win and hosts Adrian/Ellsworth on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. for its penultimate home game. Dawson-Boyd falls to 8-5 and heads to Clara City to take on MACCRAY on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

RTR 3, Lakeview 2

RUTHTON — Tyler Wichmann drove in the tying run and scored the game-winning run for the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton baseball team on Monday as the Knights downed Lakeview 3-2 in a non-conference matchup.

The Knights trailed 2-1 heading into the fifth, but Brayden Chandler hit a leadoff single and scored on a Wichmann double. After Levi Tommeraasen bunted Wichmann over to third base, Kolby Louwagie hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Wichmann for what proved to be the deciding run.

In addition to advancing Wichmann into scoring position with a bunt, Tommeraasen made a major impact on the game with his pitching. He struck out nine batters over six innings, giving up one earned run on five hits and a walk. Chandler picked up the save by striking out each of the three batters he faced in the seventh.

Braylon Breyfogle put forth a complete-game effort on the bump for Lakeview. He struck out five batters over six innings, limiting RTR to a pair of earned runs on nine hits with no walks.

Logan Herrick gave the Lakers the lead in the fourth inning. He, Breyfogle and Easton Schmidt started the frame with consecutive singles to load the bases with no outs. A passed ball allowed Herrick to score, and Brooks Smith walked to reload the bases. Yet, Tommeraasen locked in with a pair of strikeouts and an infield fly to halt the rally in its tracks.

Tyson Burns logged three hits for the Knights and Chandler added another pair. The Lakers were led by a pair of hits each from Breyfogle and Schmidt.

Chandler reached on an error and advanced to second on a bunt from Wichmann in the first. Tommeraasen then singled to shortstop and an error on the play allowed RTR to score the game’s first run, but Schmidt doubled in the top of the second and scored the tying run when Smith reached base on an error.

RTR improves to 12-4 with the win and hosts Yellow Medicine East on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., and Lakeview falls to 1-10 and hosts Central Minnesota Christian on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

YME 15, Canby 10

CANBY — The active bats of the Yellow Medicine East baseball team helped the Sting outlast Canby 15-10 in a Camden Conference slugfest on Monday.

Gunnar Fagen led the charge for the Sting, finishing a triple shy of the cycle with six RBIs and a walk. Hayden Kuehn also logged three singles and a pair of walks while Dane Hildahl contributed a double, a single, a walk and two RBIs.

Lane Wohlmann picked up the win for YME after giving up three earned runs on 10 hits and a walk over five innings. Cayson Lien gave up another three earned runs without getting an out in relief, and Michael Guertin earned the save after giving up one earned run on four hits over a pair of innings.

Tied at five runs apiece, Fagen gave the Sting the lead for good in the fourth inning. Coming to bat with one out after Cal Almich walked and Kuehn single, Fagen hit a three-run homer to right field to put the Sting on top.

An inning later, Fagen again came to bat after Drew Monson was hit by a pitch and Kuehn singled. He hit an RBI double this time around, and Gavin Torvik followed up with a two-run single to bring the gap to 11-5.

Jace Rangaard led the Lancers’ offensive efforts with two doubles, two singles and three RBIs. Jace Sigler also singled three times and drove in a run.

Cody Stoll was charged with the loss on the mound, giving up four earned runs on five hits and eight walks over 3 1/3 innings. Morgen Tol pitched the remainder of the game, surrendering five earned runs on eight hits and a pair of walks.

The Sting loaded the bases in the first three at-bats with a Monson single and walks to Hayden Kuehn and Fagen. Another walk to Wohlman pushed across the game’s first run. Caysen Liens then drove in a run on a ground out, Hildahl hit a two-run double and Aaden Kuehn hit an RBI single to bring the gap to 5-0.

Still, the Lancers were heavily motivated to get back into the game. Will Abrahamson reached on an error and Stoll singled, setting up an RBI single for Sigler. After Ben Drietz singled to load the bases, Rangaard hit a two-run single and Dyllon Christianson reached on an error to cut the deficit to a single run.

Rangaard tied the game up at 5-all when he doubled and scored on a Matthew Zitzmann single.

Canby cut the deficit to a pair of runs when Jack Midtaune hit an RBi single, Sigler drove in a run on an error and Rangaard hit a two-run double in the sixth. Yet, a two-run single by Fagen and another pair of runs scoring when Kolten Blankenshagen reached on an error got those runs right back for YME. Abrahamson’s RBI single in the bottom of the frame wasn’t enough of a spark for the Lancers to rally.

YME evens its record at 7-7 with the win and it kicks off a four-game road trip with a matchup against Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in Ruthton on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Canby falls back to .500 at 5-5 and hosts Central Minnesota Christian on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Minneota 10, TMB 1

TRACY — Creed Stassen’s mound dominance propelled the Minneota baseball team to victory on Monday. The Vikings rode Stassen’s complete-game effort to a 10-1 win over Tracy-Milroy-Balaton in Camden Conference play, giving the Vikings their eighth win in their last nine games.

Over seven innings on the mound, Stassen struck out six batters while limiting TMB to seven hits and three walks. He held the Panthers scoreless for the first six innings and he also drove in a run at the plate.

Through the first two innings, Minneota and TMB were locked in a scoreless tie. The Vikings first claimed the lead when an Ian Myhre double and a Kaden Christensen single put runners on the corners. With two outs, Stassen reached base on an error to drive in Myhre, and Landon Esping and Logan Pohlen followed with RBI singles to bring the gap to 3-0.

Christensen finished the day with a pair of hits, a pair of walks and a pair of stolen bases, and Sawyer Bradley logged two singles and a double.

Connor Lanoue took the loss on the mound for TMB, surrendering two earned and six unearned runs on nine hits and two walks over 4 2/3 innings. Brody Hauger closed out the game giving up two earned runs on a hit and three walks over 2 1/3.

A five-run fifth inning helped the Vikings reinforce their lead. With two outs, Seth Paluch singled and Bradely doubled to put two runners in scoring position, and Carson Javers sent them both home with another double. Myhre then walked to put runners on the corners, Christensen reached base on an error to drive in one run, and another pair scored when Mason Javers reached on an error to bring the score to 8-0.

Christensen walked in the seventh before scoring on a Stassen ground out, and Mason Javers was hit by a pitch before scoring on a passed ball to bring the score to 10-0.

The Panthers broke up the Vikings’ shutout bid in the seventh when Nolan Carlson and Carson Lanoue each singled, and Connor Lanoue was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. One run scored on a David Schuh ground out, but a fielder’s choice ended the game with two runners still stranded.

Minneota (8-5) next hosts Lac qui Parle Valley, Thursday at 4:30 p.m., and TMB (6-8) hosts Renville County West at the same time.

BUFFALO LAKE — The bats of the Wabasso baseball team got stronger as the game progressed in Monday’s Tomahawk/Valley Conference matchup against Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart, with the Rabbits’ slowly pulling away until they claimed a 12-2 mercy-rule win.

Locked in a 1-1 tie, Zach Skoblik was hit by a pitch and Cason Olson singled to put two runners on. Joe Rohlik followed with the go-ahead RBI single and, after Drew Kemp reached on a double, Jack Burns drew a bases-loaded walk to bring the score to 3-1.

BUFFALO LAKE — A 10-run eruption in the third inning turned the tide for the Wabasso baseball team in the nightcap of its Tomahawk/Valley Conference doubleheader against Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart Monday night, resulting in a 13-5 win for the Rabbits.
