MCC claims 3A boys True Team title

SECTION 3A TRUE-TEAM MEET
PIPESTONE — The Murray County Central boys track and field team took first place at the Section 3A True-Team meet on Tuesday. The Rebels didn’t have any individual first-place finishers, but their depth proved more than enough as they came away with the win.
MCC tallied 614.5 points, running away with the win over Luverne’s 544 and Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton’s 517.
Lakeview, Canby/Minneota and Tracy-Milroy-Balaton also placed seventh, eighth and ninth in the 12-team meet with 406, 373 and 336 points, respectively.
On the girls side, Canby/Minneota placed fourth with 528 points, trailing Luverne’s 685, Redwood Valley’s 565.5 and SWC/E’s 544.5.
Lakeview finished one spot behind Canby/Minneota in fifth with 434. TMB also placed ninth with 273 points and MCC placed 11th with 263.
Tyler Reith, Lucas Kuball and Dylan Gilbertson had the Rebel boys’ top individual performances, finishing as runners-up in the 110-meter hurdles, long jump and triple jump, respectively. Reith also helped MCC to a runner-up finish in the 4×800-meter relay, and MCC had six other third-place finishes.
Lakeview’s boys had a strong day in throwing events, with former state medalist Jackson Staab winning the shot put and discus, and Broden Stensrud winning the wheelchair shot put and wheelchair discus. The Lakers also got a first-place finish from Adeline Louwagie in the girls discus.
Canby/Minneota’s girls earned a pair of individual runner-up finishes from Jada VanEngen in the 400 meters and Karlie Wollum in the high jump. The Lancers also took first in the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400-meter relays.

SECTION 2AA TRUE-TEAM MEET
ST. PETER — Mykel Paulsen, Colton Lindquist and Katelyn Leibfried each earned individual first-place finishes for the Marshall track and field team at the Section 2AA True-Team Championships meet on Monday. The Marshall boys finished fifth out of eight teams in the event and the girls finished sixth.
Marshall’s boys finished with a team score of 239, sandwiched between St. Peter’s 315 and Worthington’s 201. Belle Plaine took first at 398, followed by Jordan at 338 and Fairmont at 329.
The Tiger girls’ score of 195 left them between Belle Plaine’s 267 and New Ulm’s 157.5. St. Peter won the meet with 425.5, followed by Jordan at 378.5 and Fairmont at 344.5.
Paulsen picked up his individual first-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:05.63. He also aided the Marshall 4×400 and 4×800-meter relays to first-place finishes, along with Hawkin Hartman, Sam Deutz and Aidan Schuerman.
Lindquist had three individual top-5 finishes in the meet. He won the long jump at 21-00, and finished as the triple-jump runner-up at 43-5.5 and fourth in the high jump at 5-10.
Leibfried and Jasmine Murphy took the top two spots in the girls 3200 meters, Leibfried winning the event at 11:51.82 and Murphy finishing as the runner up at 12:05.35.
Marshall’s distance runners also got a pair of top-5 finishes from Bigler, who placed third in the 1600 and fifth in the 800.
Brooke Gillingham also placed third in the discus while Jenna Sanders placed fifth in the 300 hurdles.
Marshall next competes at a meet in Worthington on Tuesday, May 12 at 4 p.m.
