MCC boys come out on top at Red Rock championships
TYLER — The Murray County Central boys track and field team edged out Hills-Beaver Creek to win the Red Rock Conference championship on Friday. The Rebels finished with a total of 177.5 points, putting them ahead of HBC’s 156.5 and Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton’s 147, while Russell-Tyler-Ruthton placed sixth with 40 points and Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central placed eighth with 24 points.
On the girls side, RTR was the top area performer in fourth place with 79 points, trailing HBC’s 164, SWC/E’s 142 and Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda’s 102. WWG/RRC placed sixth with 55 points and MCC took seventh with 53.
MCC’s success in the meet came largely from its depth. The boys had just two first-place finishes — Brayden Gilb, Beckett Stelter, Henry Carlson and Alexander Betz in the 4×400-meter relay and Caleb Rosenbrook in the pole vault — but were loaded with top-5 results.
Lucas Kuball finished fourth in both the 100 and 400 meters, as well as fifth in the 200, and also placed third in the long jump. The Rebels also had Alexander Betz finish as the 800 runner-up and Henry Carlson and Brayden Gilb achieve a rare tie for third in the event.
MCC got runner-up finishes from Parker Olson in the 300 hurdles, Micah Janssen in the 3200, Gabriel Wolske in the discus, Brett Pieske in the triple jump, as well as their 4×200-meter and 4×800-meter relay teams.
Charley Holm led the Rebel girls with a runner-up finish in the high jump, a third-place finish in the long jump and a fourth-place finish in the 100 meters.
WWG/RRC’s Ally Linder was the lone girl to win an individual section championship, placing first in the shot put. RTR’s 4×400-meter relay team of Jaeryn Buchert, Ava Guida, Ava Karbo and Elizabeth Determan also got a win, edging out MCC by two seconds at 4:26.48.
MCC’S boys next compete at the Class A True Teem state meet at Eden Prairie on Saturday, May 16.
From there, the MCC and RTR will compete in the Section 3A South Subsection championship on May 21 in Luverne. WWG/RRC will compete in the Central Subsection meet at the same time at Redwood Valley High School.
