Kluis, Behrends toss combined no-hitter for MCC

MCC 12, E/SWC 0 (5 inn.)

SLAYTON — Teague Meyer’s second-inning home run sparked a nine-run rally in the second inning of the Murray County Central baseball team’s Red Rock Conference matchup against Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian Tuesday night. The Rebels’ pitching took care of the rest from there, with Dugan Kluis and Tristan Behrends pitching a combined no-hitter in a 12-0 win in five innings.

Kluis threw the game’s first three innings, with just one batter reaching base but quickly getting thrown out by MCC catcher Dane Larson as he tried to steal second. Behrends threw the last two to close out the win, also just allowing one baserunner on an error. The two struck out a combined 10 of the 16 batters they faced.

MCC led 3-0 heading into the second, but they started to pull away when Carter Hanson hit a leadoff single and scored on a Meyer home run.

The rally continued as Tristan Behrends hit a leadoff single, scored on a Kluis double, and Schneider followed with another RBI single.

After a walk to Carson Lewis put two runners on, E/SWC got the first out of the inning on a fly out, but a walk to Larson loaded the bases and Gabe Tentinger was hit by a pitch to push across a run.

With two outs, Meyer walked to drive in one run and Behrends drove in another three with a single, pushing the score to 12-0.

Behrends finished the day with a game-high four RBIs on three hits, and Meyer drove in another three runs on two hits. Each of the two Rebels also drew a walk in the game.

Meyer led off the first with a single and scored the go-ahead run on an RBI single from Behrends. Schneider also logged an RBI double in the frame before scoring when Cayden Veldhuisen reached on an error.

MCC improves to a perfect 12-0 and goes on the road Thursday to take on Adrian/Ellsworth at 4:30 p.m.

TMB 9, MACCRAY 4

RAYMOND — A pair of late rallies and a shutdown relief effort from Jackson Kruse gave the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton baseball team a come-from-behind win over MACCRAY on Tuesday in Camden Conference play. The Panthers trailed 4-2 heading into the fifth, but the Panthers buckled down when it mattered most to claim a 9-4 win.

The Panthers’ go-ahead rally kicked off when a Connor Lanoue double and a David Schuh single put runners on the corners. Kruse drove both runners home with a tying double, and Aiden Sanow reached on an error and Brody Hauger hit an RBI double with two outs to give the Panthers a two-run lead.

Kruse took over on the mound in the bottom of the frame and didn’t give MACCRAY an inch. He tossed three shutout innings, striking out six batters while giving up two hits and two walks.

TMB gave itself some extra insurance in the seventh when Sanow hit a two-run double and Taylor Squires hit an RBI single to make the score 9-4.

Griffin Zick led TMB’s offense with two RBIs on a double, a single and a walk. Sanow and Hauger also finished with a double and a single each.

Coming up to bat with two outs in the first after Squires walked and Kruse was hit by a pitch, Zick gave the Panthers an early lead with a two-run double. Yet, MACCRAY tied the game with a pair of runs in the third and went ahead with another pair in the fourth.

Zick threw the first four innings for TMB, giving up a pair of earned runs on six hits and a walk.

TMB improves to 7-8 and looks to even its record when it hosts Renville County West in its final home game of the year on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

CMC 5, Canby 3

CANBY — Jace Rangaard’s complete-game effort on the mound wasn’t enough for the Canby baseball team to steal a win against Central Minnesota Christian on Tuesday in Camden Conference play. The Lancers fell into an early deficit and never recovered, losing 5-3.

Rangaard gave up four first-inning runs on four hits and a walk, but he recovered from there to pitch a strong final six innings. He finished the day striking out eight batters and limited the Bluejays to three hits, no walks and one run for the remainder of the game, but the Lancers’ bats weren’t able to get them back into it.

Canby got on the scoreboard in the second. With one out, Ben Drietz and Rangaard singled and Morgen Tol was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A strikeout put two away, but Hunter Kack hit a two-run double to cut the deficit in half. Yet, CMC got a run back on a solo homer in the third.

Cody Stoll walked before scoring on a Jace Sigler double in the sixth, but CMC retired each of the next three Lancers to halt the rally, and the Bluejays came up with two strikeouts in a three-up, three-down seventh to end the game.

Canby drops to 5-6 with the loss and looks to bounce back to .500 when it takes on MACCRAY in a road matchup on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Dawson-Boyd 9, MACCRAY 5

RAYMOND — The Dawson-Boyd baseball team’s bats were too hot for the MACCRAY Wolverines to contain Tuesday in Camden Conference play. The Blackjacks erupted for seven second-inning runs and never looked back in a 9-5 victory.

Dawson-Boyd first took the lead when Nathan Hansen doubled in Colton Bothun in the first, but the second shifted the tone of the game.

Aedyn Dahl led off the rally with a walk and Eli Olson reached on an error to put two runners on. Ace Larson grounded out to drive in one run with two outs, and Kyan Moseng struck out to nearly end the inning, but the third strike was dropped and Moseng beat the throw to first to drive in one run and keep the rally alive.

Dawson-Boyd capitalized on its new life by a Bothun single and a Kameron Sather walk to load the bases. Hansen then reached base on an error to push across three runs, Holland Schacherer hit an RBI single and he scored on a passed ball to bring the score to 8-0.

Olson earned the win on the mound, giving up four earned runs on eight hits and a walk over six innings. Hansen closed out the game with a scoreless seventh, walking one batter while striking out two.

Larson singled in the third before scoring on a Sather single to bring the score to 9-0. MACCRAY answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame and added another in the fifth, but the Wolverines couldn’t muster the offense to keep the game within reach.

Dawson-Boyd improves to 9-5 and next hosts Lac qui Parle Valley on Friday at 4:30 p.m. for its home finale.
