Huso, Einck lead Rebels to Red Rock title

WORTHINGTON — The Murray County Central girls golf team captured the Red Rock Conference Championship on Tuesday at Great Life Golf & Fitness in Worthington, eking out a four-stroke win over Russell-Tyler-Ruthton for the title.
The Rebels were led by a pair of All-Conference honorees in Rachael Huso and Natalie Einck. Huso ranked fourth on the All-Conference list while Einck finished sixth. The conference championship and All-Conference teams are determined by a composite of the four Red Rock Conference meets.
RTR’s Teigyn O’Leary was the conference’s Individual champion, placing fifth on Tuesday with a 23-over 94 to put together a total score of 264. Her teammates Izzy Thomas and Leah Norgaard also placed sixth and 10th on the All-Conference team at 182 and 188, respectively, after finishing seventh and eighth on Tuesday.
MCC placed third in Tuesday’s meet with a score of 407, trailing RTR’s 406 and Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey’s 398. Still, the Rebels did enough over the course of the season to finish with a score of 1,544 to beat out RTR’s 1,548 and MLAC’s 1,575. Red Rock Central placed fourth at 1,825 and Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda/Westbrook-walnut Grove placed fifth with an 1,811. Hills-Beaver Creek and Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton did not field team scores.
RRC’s Jorga Brown shot a 21-over 92 at the meet to finish as the meet runner-up and conference runner-up. MLAC’s Nevaeh Ott shot a 90 to top the field and ranked third on the All-Conference team.
Huso’s 93 on Tuesday led her to a tie with Reagan Pedersen for third, and Einck shot a 98 to place sixth.
The Rebels had a sea of golfers in the mid-teens to round out their scores, with Lizzie Daniels and Elysia Korver tying for 14th at 108 and Brielle Plotz placing 17th with a 109. Korver and Daniels both finished just outside of the All-Conference team in 11th and 12th.
Eighth grader Jacey Schreurs rounded out RTR’s scorers in 18th with a 111.
HLOF/WWG was led by Cadey Brown’s 10th-place finish at 102 and Ava Herding’s 12th-place finish at 105. The duo led the Coyotes to a fourth-place team finish on the day at 443 to beat out RRC’s 467.
Josie Timm was the Falcons’ No. 2 scorer in a tie with Herding for 12th.
MCC hosts Worthington for a dual on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Slayton Country Club. From there, the Rebels will return to Great Life Golf & Fitness — along with RTR, RRC and HLOF/WWG — for the Section 3A championship meet on Wednesday at 8 a.m.
HLOF/WWG takes bronze at Red Rock Championship
WORTHINGTON — All-Conference honoree Neil Kuehl led the Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda/Westbrook-Walnut Grove in the Red Rock Conference boys golf championship on Tuesday at Great Life Golf & Fitness. Kuehl ranked third on the All-Conference team as the Coyotes placed third in the conference standings.
As a team, HLOF/WWG shot a 370 to finish behind only Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey’s 354 and Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton’s 350. For the season, the Coyotes compiled a score of 1,432, trailing champion MLAC’s 1,376 and SWC/E’s 1,412.
Kuehl placed seventh individually in the meet with a 19-over 90, giving him a score of 261 for the season. Albert Vega was the team’s top performer on the day, edging out Kuehl by a stroke to place sixth.
Russell-Tyler-Ruthton placed fifth in the meet with a 379, as well as fifth for the season at 1,488. MCC also placed sixth for the meet and the season at 398 and 1,536, and RRC finished eighth in both categories at 427 and 1,661.
MLAC’s Maxton Fast was the Conference Most Valuable Player at 249 after placing fourth on Tuesday at 16-over 87. SWC/E’s Parker Fey was the meet champion at 84 to finish as the All-Conference runner-up, and MLAC’s Brayden Oakland rounded out the podium in third after an eighth-place finish on Tuesday at 91.
RRC’s Finn Batalden finished fourth on the All-Conference list at 167, beating out MCC’s Kaden Landsman by a stroke. Landsman shot a 91 to tie for eighth in Tuesday’s meet and Batalden shot a 98 to place 25th.
RTR’s top performer for the season was Colten Thomsen, who earned All-Conference honors with a 172 to place ninth. He shot a 96 in the final meet to place 20th.
RTR was led in the meet by Jayden Schreurs’s 92 and Bennett Bedow’s 94, placing 13th and 15th, respectively, and Jonah Norgaard rounded out the team’s scorers with a 97 to place 21st.
In addition to Kuehl and Vega, HLOF/WWG’s Connor Jackels tied for 15th and Brady Madison and Kellen Hollahan tied for 21st with a 97. Madison finished just outside of the All-Conference team with a 173.
Jett Veldhuisen and Keagan Wiekeraad tied for 28th at 100 as the Rebels’ No. 2 scorers, and Gary Plotz and Hunter Reese each shot a 107 to tie for 37th.
HLOF/WWG, RTR MCC and RRC now look to keep their season going when they compete in the Section 3A Championship at Great Life Golf & Fitness on Wednesday at 8 a.m. MCC also hosts Worthington for a dual a day prior at 1 p.m.
