Blackjacks flood top of the leaderboard at Knight Invite

GIRLS KNIGHT INVITE

TYLER — The Dawson-Boyd girls golf team accounted for four of the top six finishers at the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Knight Invitational on Friday, helping the Blackjacks run away with a first-place finish in the nine-team event.

Alyssa Swedzinski led the charge for Dawson-Boyd, posting a 13-over 84 to finish as the individual runner-up to Lac qui Parle Valley’s Molly Halvorson’s 82. Swedzinski carded a birdie and three pars on the front 9, along with another pair of pars on the back 9.

Dawson-Boyd finished with a team score of 346, beating out LQPV’s 372 and RTR’s 396. Canby also placed fifth with a 430, Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda/Westbrook-Walnut Grove placed seventh at 446 and Minneota placed eighth at 462.

Kylar Hjelmeland placed third individually for the Blackjacks with an 86, including a stretch of three pars and a birdie to start the back 9. Laura Schreier and Claire Stratmoen rounded out the Dawson-Boyd scorers in a tie for fifth out of 46 golfers at 88.

Teigyn O’Leary was the hosting Knights’ top performer on the day, carding a 20-over 91 with a birdie on hole 10 to place seventh. RTR also had Izzy Thomas place 12th with a 96 and Leah Norgaard place 15th with a 99.

Canby was led by sophomore Maddison Richter in ninth place. Richter recorded four pars in the round to finish at 23-over 94.

HLOF/WWG had a pair of top-20 finishers, Cadey Brown placing 18th with a 103 and Ava Herding in a tie with Canby’s Jayda Namken for 20th with a 107.

Ava Panka posted Minneota’s low round with a 109, good for 20th.

RTR and HLOF/WWG return to action on Tuesday at Great Life Golf & Fitness in Worthington for the Red Rock Conference Championship, starting at 9:30 a.m. Minneota, Dawson-Boyd and Canby, meanwhile, will compete in the Camden Conference Championship at Marshall Golf Club on Tuesday at 9 a.m.

BOYS KNIGHT INVITE

TYLER — Blayze Hulzebos and Owen Dalager both finished in the top 4 of the 56-player field at the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Knight boys golf Invitational Friday, leading the Minneota Vikings to a runner-up finish in the event.

Hulzebos shot a 2-over 73 to tie for second on the day while Dalager shot a 3-over 74 to tie for fourth. Hulzebos was particularly strong on the back nine, on which he carded three birdies to finish even-par, and Dalager had four birdies spread throughout the round.

The Vikings finished with a team score of 317, trailing only Sleepy Eye United’s 313 and beating out Luverne’s 318. Dawson-Boyd also placed fourth at 321, and Canby’s 351, RTR’s 356 and Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda/Westbrook-Walnut Grove’s 359 rounded out the field in sixth, eighth and ninth.

The Blackjacks also had a pair of golfers near the top of the pack. Carson Stratmoen went even-par on the front 9 to finish at 2-over for the day, tying Hulzebos as the meet runner-up, and Evan Mork shot a 74 to tie Dalager and Canby’s Lane Citrowske for fourth.

Jase Sorensen was Minneota’s No. 3 scorer on the day, placing 21st with an 84, and Randy Sorensen and Easton Sheik tied for 26th with an 86 to round out the Minneota scorers.

Dawson-Boyd’s third and fourth finishers were Mason Solem and Owen Schindler, who placed 24th with an 85 and 30th with an 89, respectively.

Daven VanEngen earned a 10th-place finish for Canby, carding a pair of front-9 birdies to close out the day with an 8-over 79.

RTR’s Jayden Schreurs and HLOF/WWG’s Kellen Hollahan led their respective teams in a tie for 16th with an 83.

Minneota, Dawson-Boyd and Canby next compete in the Camden Conference Championship at Marshall Golf Club on Tuesday at 9 a.m. RTR and HLOF/WWG will wrap up their conference schedule at the Red Rock Conference Championship at Great Life Golf & Fitness in Worthington on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.
