Dawson-Boyd 12, Benson 9
BENSON — The Dawson-Boyd baseball team rallied late for five runs in its final plate appearance to take the lead and hang on for the comeback 12-9 win over Benson on the road Monday night.
Heading into the top of the seventh inning facing a 9-7 deficit, the Blackjacks scored a pair of runs to tie the score up, and still added another three for their first lead of the day, which also was enough to seal the win.
Eli Olson scored the first run of the rally with the help of a Jackson Shugel hit. Schugel reached base off a Benson defensive error.
A Colten Bothun two-run RBI double scored both the game-tying and go-ahead run, allowing Shugel and Grady Thesing to run home.
Bothun also led the team with a pair of doubles in the win, and went 2 for 4 at the plate along with a pair of runs and two RBIs.
After Kam Sather was walked, Nate Hansen stepped up to the plate and hit a fly ball to center field, reaching base on an error, which also allowed Bothun and Sather enough time to score for the 12-9 lead, ultimately becoming the final score.
Benson looked to do much of the same in the bottom of the seventh, but an infield play made by Olson at third base and a pair of Sather strikeouts ended the night for the Blackjacks’ win.
Dawson-Boyd finished the game with 12 hits and one error to Benson’s four errors and nine hits.
Benson initially took a 5-1 lead after a five-run third inning, along with scoring four in the sixth. The Blackjacks embarked on their comeback with five runs in the sixth inning to cut into the two-run deficit, before finishing things off in the final frame.
Aedyn Dahl got the start on the mound, and finished with six strikeouts through his four innings, while allowing five hits and two walks. Olson and Sather split relieving duties over the next three innings.
Dawson-Boyd (11-5) will remain on the road to wrap up the regular season at Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

HANCOCK — Cash Antony and Jace Rangaard both batted 3 for 4 at the plate along with Rangaard tossing nine strikeouts to lead the Canby baseball team to a 6-3 win over Hancock on the road on Wednesday.
Hancock made a late push through the final two innings to pull closer into the deficit, but the Lancers’ early offensive spark was enough to hang on for the win down the stretch.
Canby scored three unanswered runs in the top of the second inning to get on the board. Hunter Kack scored the first run on a Matthew Zitzmann RBI single, while an Antony two-run RBI double with a fly ball to center field in the next at-bat scored both Zitzmann and Morgan Tol.
Kack was courtesy running for Raangard, who had a base hit, while Zitzmann and Tol each had singles as well.
Canby added in two more runs in the fourth inning to build a 5-0 lead, both runs of which came in the same at-bat with Wyatt Hentges stealing home on a Hancock error, and Antony scored on the same error.
Hancock scored one run in the sixth inning with another two in the bottom of the seventh, as did the Lancers with one more in the top of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to fully overcome Canby’s early lead.
The Lancers finished the day with 11 hits and one error to Hancock’s 12 hits and two errors.
Rangaard had a good day on the mound as well, pitching nine strikeouts through his six innings on the mound and was charged with the win. He allowed one walk and two earned runs.
