All-Conference duo leads Marshall girls to BSC title
MORTON — The top-10 finishes of Dayton Webskowski, Maddi Panka and Anna Thor helped the Marshall girls golf team eke out a first-place finish at the Big South Conference Championship Tournament, Monday at Dacotah Ridge Golf Club.
As a team, Marshall tallied a team score of 377 to edge out Fairmont by a single stroke, and Blue Earth Area placed third at 400 in the 14-team event.
Webskowski was first on the Big South All-Conference list after finishing the championship meet tied with Katherine Zelaya for first place with a 9-over 81. Webskowski was particularly strong on the back 9, on which she carded three birdies and a par in the first four holes to go 3-over on the turn. She also recorded five pars on the front 9.
Panka also ranked eighth on the All-Conference list after closing out the championship tied with Pipestone’s Vivian Brockberg for seventh. Panka shot a 23-over 95 in the round, including four front-9 pars.
Thor tied for 10th to give Marshall yet another golfer near the top of the 75-player field. She finished her round at 27-over 99 with a par on hole 11.
Kathryn Gordon rounded out Marshall’s scorers in 19th with a 102, highlighted by a birdie on hole 11. She was followed closely by teammates Isabella Gossen and Emry Weller, who shot a 104 and 105 to place 22nd and 25th, respectively.
The Marshall boys will take to Dacotah Ridge Golf Club today for their conference championship meet at 10 a.m. From there, both teams will begin to prepare for the Section 3AA tournament at Oakdale Golf Club, the girls on Wednesday, May 20 and the boys on the 21st.
