Winn, Wing top leaderboard as Tigers win home invite

MARSHALL — The Marshall boys golf team made a statement at its 18-hole home invitational meet Monday afternoon, taking first place as a team powered by Elijah Winn and Deacon Wing’s first and second-place finishes.
Marshall had two teams competing, Marshall Black and Marshall White.
All competing individuals for Marshall Black, the team that won the meet, placed in the top-10. Winn’s 5-under 67 led the Tigers to win the entire invite individually.
Winn had an impressive performance with an eagle on the second hole, along with seven birdies. He shot evenly throughout the meet, shooting a 33 in the front-9 and a 34 in the back.
Wing also had a successful day and followed behind with a 1-under 71 finish for second place, carding four birdies in the front-9.

Ethan Wendorff, Jaylen Koster and Carter Manthei all tied for sixth place individually, all carding a 4-over 76. Keegan Fossum rounded out Marshall Black in 10th place after shooting a 6-over 78.
Marshall Black as a team finished with a 290, well ahead of Central Minnesota Christian’s runner-up finish of 320. Marshall White came in ninth place with a 344. There were 15 competing teams.
Easton Jiskoot led Marshall Black with a 10-over 82, finishing in 23rd individually.
Minneota and Lakeview also finished in the top-5 as a team, with the Vikings coming in third with a 322. The Lakers followed one stroke behind with a 323.
For Minneota, Owen Dalager led the way in fourth place individually with a 3-over 75. He shot two birdies on theday, on holes 10 and 12.

Blayze Hulzebos came in 10th with a 6-over 78, carding four birdies.
The Lakers’ were led by eighth-grader Ledgen Javens, who carded a 3-over 75 to tie Dalager for fourth place. He also had four birdies.
Dawson-Boyd took eighth, led by Evan Mork’s and Carson Stratmoen’s 7-over 79 for a 14th-place tie.
Russell-Tyler-Ruthton, Canby, Yellow Medicine East and Murray County Central also participated in the meet, finishing in 10th, 12th, 13th and 15th as a team, respectively. Tracy-Milroy-Balaton also competed, but did not have enough qualifying individuals to field a team.
Following the girl’s invitational on Tuesday back at the Marshall golf course, the Tigers will head to the Redwood Valley invite on Thursday with a 4 p.m. start.
