Tigers ride late offense to win over St. Peter

Marshall 10, St. Peter 3
ST. PETER — The Marshall baseball team scored eight combined runs in the final two innings and JR Vierstraete went 3 for 4 at the plate with three runs to help lead the Tigers to a 10-3 win against St. Peter on the road Tuesday night.
Marshall and St. Peter fought back-and-forth through a majority of the game, with Marshall holding a 2-1 lead after the top of the fourth inning.
But, Marshall got its bats going and brought in four runs in each the sixth and seventh innings to pull away for the win.
In Marshall’s final at-bat, Eli Weedman scored on a Trae Bailey RBI single, while Vierstraete ran in Chase Alcorn in the next play.
Levi Maeyaert hit a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Bailey enough time to tag and charge home, and Vierstraete scored Marshall’s final run with a Noah Pieper RBI single for a 10-1 lead.
St. Peter attempted to come back and scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh, yet Marshall completed the outs between a force out and an infield double play to end the game.
Marshall finished with 13 hits and one error to St. Peter’s seven hits and three errors.
Andrew Lee got the win on the mound with his five innings pitched. He retired five batters, and allowed four hits, one earned run and two walks.
Marshall moves to a 5-0 start on the season, and will look to keep things trending in the right direction when it travels to take on Andover on Friday at 5 p.m.

RUSSELL — Tyler Wichmann’s homerun and Russell-Tyler-Ruthton’s deep pitching talent shined again in a 6-1 win over Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Tuesday night. Kolby Louwagie tossed 11 strikeouts and allowed just two hits in his five innings on the mound.
The Knights’ plate appearence was also a strength in the win, with Isaac Janish, Levi Tommeraasen and Quinn Valdez each hitting a double to pair with Wichmann’s fourth-inning single homer.
The fourth inning is where RTR took control of the game with four runs. After Wichmann started the rally, Brayden Chandler scored the next run on a Janish RBI double. Colton Chandler then scored on a Tommeraasen sacrifice fly, and Janish scored the final run of the inning on a Valdez double.
TMB got on the board in the top of the fifth inning after Carson Lanoue scored home on a wild pitch. Lanoue initially got on base with a walk, and made his way to third following a pair of base hits.
But, RTR scored another two runs in the sixth inning and didn’t allow the Panthers to embark on a comeback to seal the game.
Connor Lanoue was the Panthers’ starting pitcher through the first four innings, and finished with one strikeout while allowing seven hits and four earned runs with no walks. David Schuh stepped in the final two innings, and tossed a pair of strikeouts while allowing two hits, one walk and two earned runs.
Along with his 11 retired batters, Louwagie finished his pitching time with three walks and one earned run.
RTR (4-1) will next look for its fourth-straight win when it travels to Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
TMB (1-2) will return back to Tracy to host Lac qui Parle Valley, also at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

SLAYTON — Krew Schneider hit a homerun and Dugan Kluis pitched a complete-game shutout with 10 strikeouts to give the Murray County Central baseball a 7-0 win over Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey Tuesday night, and a 5-0 start to the season.
The Rebels outhit MLAC 10-2, and took a fast lead after scoring four runs in the second inning.
Gabe Tentinger scored MCC’s first run on a Tristan Behrends RBI single, and Behrends later got home on a Teague Meyer RBI single. Behrends also went 3 for 3 at the plate.
Carter Hanson and Meyer then both ran home on a Kluis two-run RBI sigle to left field to give the Rebels a 4-0 edge after two innings.
MCC kept up much of the same pace, with Schneider’s homer coming in the fourth inning.
Kluis had a near no-hitter, allowing just two hits and one walk with his 10 strikeouts and no runs allowed.
MCC will look to keep its hot start to the season rolling when it travels to take on Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
