Big South girls meet

NEW ULM — Dayton Webskowski’s first-place finish helped the Marshall girls golf team edge out Worthington by a single stroke at the first Big South Conference division meet of the season on Monday. The senior Tiger’s strong outing, combined with complementary scoring from Emry Weller, Maddi Panka and Katie Gordon, led the Tigers to a team score of 199 and a first-place finish in the seven-team event.

Worthington and St. Peter were right on Marshall’s tail, finishing with 200 and 201 team scores, respectively, but the Tigers were able to get enough to come away with the win.

Webskowski carded a 7-over 43 on the day, beating out runner-up Brogan Thordson of New Ulm by one stroke and third-place Claire Meyer of Worthington by four. Webskowski had a slip-up on holes 7 and 8, shooting a combined 7-over between the two holes, but parred each of her other seven holes on the day.

Weller, also a senior, was Marshall’s No. 2 scorer on the day. In her first season as a top-6 scorer for the Tigers, Weller made a statement in her conference opener with a ninth-place finish by shooting 15-over 51.

Juniors Panka and Gordon rounded out the Tiger scorers, Panka shooting a 16-over 52 to place 15th and Gordon a 17-over 53 to tie for 17th.

Isabella Gossen and Anna Thor also competed for Marshall in the 39-player meet, placing 23rd with a 57 and 32nd with a 61.

Big South boys meet

WASECA — Elijah Winn’s first-place finish wasn’t enough to lift the Marshall boys golf team to victory Monday night as the Tigers finished as meet runners-up to St. Peter at the first Big South Conference division meet of the season.

The Tigers had plenty of depth on the day, putting all four scorers in the top 10. Jaylen Koster was Marshall’s No. 2, tying for ninth place with a 5-over 40, while Keegan Fossum and Ethan Wendorff tied for ninth with a 6-over 41.
