Tiger track earns eight first-place finishes in outdoor opener

Marshall at Mankato West
MANKATO — Taleigha Bigler, Katelyn Leibfried, Brooklyn Purrington and Autumn Deutz each earned individual first-place finishes for the Marshall girls track and field team at the Mankato West Outdoor Invite on Thursday, leading the Tigers to a runner-up finish.
The boys team also competed in the meet, getting a pair of first-place finishes from Sam Deutz and another from Sam Meier to place fourth out of five teams.
Marshall’s girls squad finished with 37 points, beating out third-place Waseca’s 25 and trailing only Mankato West’s 92.
On the boys side, Marshall finished with 27 points, just shy of New Ulm’s 28 and Waseca’s 44. Mankato West won the meet with 78 points.
Bigler and Leibfried won the 800 meters and 3200 meters, respectively, and also helped the Tigers to a win in the 4×800-meter relay along with Kaitlyn Soupir and Jasmine Murphy.
In the field events, Purrington won the high jump and Autumn Deutz won the pole vault.
On the boys side, Sam Deutz won both the 1600 meters and 3200 meters, with Mykel Paulsen also taking second for the Tigers in the former. Marshall also got a win from Meier in the boys shot put.
Aidan Schuerman was all over the track for Marshall, finishing as the runner up in both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles, and placing fifth in the 3200 meters.
Marshall next hosts a home meet on Monday at 3:30 p.m.

Wabasso, TMB at Windom
WINDOM — Wabasso and Tracy-Milroy-Balaton each competed at the Windom Track and Field meet on Thursday, with the Rabbits’ boys taking third and girls taking fourth, followed by the Panther boys in fourth and girls in fifth.
Wabasso’s boys finished with a team total of 92 points, trailing Worthington’s 136 and Windom’s 115. TMB tallied 76 points in the five-team meet.
On the girls’ side, Wabasso finished with 67 points and TMB with 20. Jackson County Central won the meet with 132 points, followed by Windom with 98 and Worthington with 96.
On the boys side, TMB got a pair of first-place finishes from Eli Lightfoot in the long jump and the triple jump, and Tyler Arnold in the 800 meters. Wabasso also got a 1600-meter win from Andrew Morin and Brillan Wagner in the shot put.
Elsie Leopold and Aaliyah Flowers each won an event for Wabasso’s girls team. Leopold took first in the 400 meters — as well as a 200-meter runner-up finish — and Flowers won the 100-meter hurdles.
TMB’s Myhlez Moua, Braden Morgan and Hunter Ostgaard earned relay wins in the 4×100-meter and 4x-200-meter relays, aided by Ty Yackley in the former and Lightfoot in the latter.
Wabasso returns to action on Monday at a meet hosted by Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey at 4:15 p.m., and TMB gets back to the track on Monday at Marshall at 3:30 p.m.
