Sorenson finishes first, Vikings win home invite

MINNEOTA — Jase Sorensen took first place overall while Owen Dalager and Blayze Hulzebos followed in the top-5 to help lead the Minneota boys golf team win the Camden Conference South 9-hole invitational on Tuesday at its home meet at the Countryside Golf Club.

The Vikings took first place with a team score of 164, which was 10 strokes under Canby and Lakeview’s runner-up finish of 174. Yellow Medicine East placed fourth with a 187, and Tracy-Milroy-Balaton followed in fifth with a score of 197.

The invite was competitive between several athletes and schools, as the difference individually between first and 10th was just five strokes.

Sorensen hung on for the win with a 3-over 39, one stroke under Canby’s Isaac Bollerud’s 4-over 40 and second-place finish. Sorensen had a birdie on the first hole.

Dalager for Minneota tied for second place with Bollerud, with Dalager carding a birdie on hole 8.

Hulzebos followed right behind in fourth place with a 5-over 41, including an eagle on the seventh hole. The Vikings were well represented in the top-10, with Easton Sheik coming up in 10th place with an 8-over 44.

Lane Citrowske joined Bollerud with Canby in the top of the leaderboard, shooting a 6-over 42 to finish in sixth.

Lakeview also saw a lot of success, with Landon Teske and Ledgen Javens sharing sixth place with Citrowske as well. Teske had a pair of birdies back-to-back on holes 7 and 8. Gavin Gregoire led the Lakers, tied for fourth with Hulzebos.

Jack Mensink led YME with an eighth-place finish and carded a 7-over 43, as Gavin Fischer did the same for TMB in 14th with a 10-over 46.

The teams will see one another again and compete at another Camden Conference meet, at Lakeview’s Cottonwood Country Club on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Laker girls take first at conference invite

MINNEOTA — The Lakeview girls golf team made a statement and took first place at the Camden Conference South 9-hole invitational on Tuesday in Minneota at the Countryside Golf Club.

Canby sophomore Maddison Richter won the entire meet individually, carding a 7-over 43, three strokes under Minneota’s Ava Panka’s runner-up finish over 10-over 46.

As a team, the Lakers won the invite with a 206 while Canby followed with a 211 for second place. The Vikings came in third with a 225, while Tracy-Milroy-Balaton didn’t have enough golfers to qualify for a full team at the event.

Nora Forslund, Lauren Boe and Jersey Strensrud led Lakeview with top-5 individual finishes. Forslund tied Panka for second place, and Boe followed close behind with a 12-over 48 for fourth place. Stensrud came in fifth after carding a 14-over 50.

Allison Isaacs rounded out the Lakers in 14th, shooting a 62.

Jayda Namken joined Richter in the top-10 for the Lancers with a 15-over 51, while Ava Rost did the same in eighth place with a 21-over 57 to join Panka.

Taylor Munson and Madelyn Elsen were the two Panthers competing at the event, both had a good performance and finished in seventh and eighth, respectively. Taylor shot a 16-over 52 while Elsen tied with Rost in eighth with a 21-over 57.

The Camden teams will return back to the green to face off against one another again on Friday, with Lakeview hosting the meet at the Cottonwood Country Club with a 4:30 p.m. start.
