Sneller’s no-hitter and 12 Ks power YME past RTR

GRANITE FALLS — Bayli Sneller’s no-hitter performance with 12 strikeouts led the Yellow Medicine East softball team in a 2-0 win over Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Monday night.

Sneller caught fire and never let go, troubling the Knights in finding an answer at the plate. Through her complete game, she allowed no hits with just four walks to pair with her 12 strikeouts. She also went 1 of 3 with an RBI on the offensive end.

The Sting scored both of their runs in the bottom of the third inning with Everra Leenerts scoring on a Kourtney Peterson RBI single, and Sneller hit a double line drive to left field to run home Peterson shortly after.

Jaida Fricke also pitched a complete game for the Knights. She tossed six strikeouts while allowing three hits, one walk and no earned runs.

RTR (0-4) will look to find an answer when it hosts Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

YME (1-1) will host Dawson-Boyd on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Minneota/Canby 4, Pipestone 3

PIPESTONE — The Minneota/Canby softball team picked up a 4-3 thrilling win in the first game of a doubleheader against Pipestone Monday night in the last inning.

The Vikings went into the seventh frame and their last at-bat facing a 3-2 deficit.

Gretta Buysse scored the game-tying run off a Madison Bednarek RBI single, and Joelle Otto shortly after scored the go-ahead run following a Jayla Jerzak RBI double on a line drive to center field.

Minneota/Canby sealed the deal after holding the Arrows to three quick outs in the bottom of the seventh between a pair of strikeouts and a fly ball catch from Danielle Kockelman.

Madison Hennen pitched the complete game, throwing six strikeouts while allowing seven hits, five walks and two earned runs.

Otto led at the plate, going 3 of 4 with two runs and an RBI.

Minneota/Canby (3-3) will next host Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Pipestone 9, Minneota/Canby 6

PIPESTONE — Emily Walker went 3 for 3 at the plate and Madison Hennen pitched another six strikeouts, but the Minneota/Canby softball team came up short 9-6 in the second of the doubleheader against Pipestone on Monday.

Pipestone scored three runs in each the third and fourth innings to pull away, and continued to chip away.

The Vikings put up a late fight and cut into a 9-5 deficit after scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Although Minneota/Canby scored once more in the bottom of the seventh, the Arrows put a quick end to the comeback attempt following a ground-out and strikeout.

Walker led the Vikings with a pair of doubles.

Joelle Otto pitched the first three innings, throwing one strikeout while allowing six hits, four earned runs and two walks. Hennen stepped in as relief for the next four frames, tossing six strikeouts with six hits, four earned runs and one walk.

Minneota/Canby (3-3) will next host Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

LQPV 7, MCC 5

SLAYTON — Despite a high-hitting game between both teams, the Murray County Central softball team came up short 7-5 Monday night to Lac qui Parle Valley.

The Eagles scored six combined runs between the third and fourth innings. The Rebels attempted to comeback with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but LQPV was able to hang onto its lead following a scoreless final innings.

MCC slightly outhit LQPV 11-10, and both teams committed two errors.

Calleigh Doeden led MCC offensively going 3 for 3 at the plate with two RBIs.

Charlie Paulzine got the start and pitched the first three innings, throwing three strikeouts with three walks and six hits. Kate Blankenship finished the final four innings with two strikeouts, four hits and two walks.

MCC (1-2) will look to bounce back when it hosts Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
