Smith’s 3 RBIs aid Lakeview baseball to first win

Prep baseball roundup April 21, 2026

Lakeview 9, Ortonville 8

ORTONVILLE — The Lakeview baseball team picked up its first win of the season Tuesday night behind an efficient offensive effort with several players connecting for a hit. Logan Herrick had a homerun while Brooks Smith went 3 for 5 at the plate with a team-high three RBIs and two runs to highlight the Lakers’ 9-8 win over Ortonville.

Six different players for Lakeview got a hit in the win, and the Lakers initially got things started with a 6-0 lead after rallying for four runs in the second inning and another two in the third.

Smith hit a single out to left field to get the Lakers’ offense started in the second inning, and Teague Neuman, Landyn Listul and Jared Bot all scored on the same play off a Trojans’ error. Smith also got the third base on the same play.

Smith was then able to get home with the help of a Braylon Breyfogle RBI single for a 4-0 lead.

Lakeview’s two third-inning runs came from Chase Vogel and Bot, scoring on a walk with bases loaded and off an Ortonville error, respectively.

Yet, Ortonville had a response and fought back into a 6-5 deficit after scoring five straight runs in the bottom of the third.

The next two innings went scoreless, but the Lakers and Trojans got tied up 7-7 following the sixth inning. Lakeview scored one run in the top of the frame, while Ortonville ran in two.

Heading in the final inning, Lakeview made big plays at the plate when it needed it most.

With two outs, Jackson Forslund accounted for the go-ahead run and 8-7 lead after scoring on a passed ball from third. Smith then scored the insurance run right after on an Easton Schimdt RBI single.

Ortonville brought in one run in the bottom of the frame with a sacrifice hit, but Lakeview hung on defensively for the win with a trio of ground-out plays.

Neuman also had a good pitching performance, throwing six strikeouts in his five innings on the mound. He finished with eight hits, four walks and seven earned runs.

Along with Smith, Bot also had two runs in the win.

Lakeview (1-4) will look to keep up the momentum when it finishes its three-game road trip at Dawson-Boyd on Thursday with a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.

TMB 4, Dawson-Boyd 3

MILROY — A strong start at the plate helped the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton baseball team prevail for a 4-3 competitive win against Dawson-Boyd Tuesday night.

After getting three quick outs to open the game between a pair of Connor Lanoue strikeouts and an infield ground-out, the Panthers got right to work on the offensive end and score three runs in the first inning.

Jackson Kruse hit a big two-run RBI double on a line drive to center field to score Taylor Squires and Lanoue. Squires was initially hit by a pitch while Lanoue had an infield single.

Kruse then found his way home with the help of an Aiden Sanow line drive center as well.

Dawson-Boyd was able to bring that back within a run and cut into a 3-2 deficit with a pair of runs in the third inning.

Ace Larson and Eli Olson both scored, on a Kam Sather RBI single and as the result of a Lanoue balk, respectively.

TMB’s Griffin Zick was able to score in the fifth inning to give the Panthers a little bit of breathing room with two innings to go, up 4-2. He scored on a Sanow base hit.

Zictz’ run was ultimately just enough for TMB to hang on for the win as the Blackjacks kept up their fight and scored once more in the sixth inning with Sather scoring on a wild pitch. But, Lanoue earned his redemption and struck out the next batter to seal TMB’s victory.

Nathan Hansen and Lanoue both pitched a complete game. Hansen finished with four strikeouts while allowing six hits, four walks and four earned runs for Dawson-Boyd. For TMB, Lanoue tossed seven strikeouts while allowing four hits, three earned runs and one walk.

Dawson-Boyd (4-2) will look to get back on track when it hosts Lakeview (1-4) on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

TMB (2-3) will stay home to host Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Thursday, also at 4:30 p.m.
