Smidt sets SMSU javelin record in Mankato meet

MANKATO — The Southwest Minnesota State women’s and men’s track & field teams put together several top marks and times, including one school record, competing at the Stomper Open hosted by Minnesota State on Wednesday afternoon.

SMSU closed the day with four first-places finishes.

Logan Smidt, competing in just her second collegiate meet, set a school record in the javelin with a first-place toss of 37.83m. The mark broke the previous school record of 36.06m set in 2024.

Colton Johnson had big day for the men’s team winning the long jump with a distance of 7.44m. The mark would be a school record, breaking the previous record of 7.25m, but the jump was aided by wind per NCAA rules. Johnson also finished third in the triple jump at 14.28m.

Ole Taylor won the men’s javelin with a toss of 53.54m.

Jacob Kunkel placed second in the high jump clearing with a personal best 2.02m.
