Schneider’s shutout keeps Rebels rolling

SLAYTON — The Murray County Central baseball team saved its perfect start to the season with a 6-0 defeat over Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Monday night, powered behind Krew Schneider’s complete-game shutout on the mound.

Schneider allowed just one hit and one walk with his seven strikeouts, and also went a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate along with an RBI.

Seeing a competitive start between two of the top teams in Section 3A, the Rebels took a 3-0 lead following a pair of runs in the third with one more in the fourth.

Carter Hanson scored MCC’s first run in the bottom of the third, running from third to home on a passed ball. Teague Meyer also scored on a passed ball while Carson Lewis was up to bat.

Meyer hit an RBI single on a fly ball to center field to score Tristan Behrends in the following inning to build the Rebels’ lead up for four runs.

MCC put the dagger on the win with another three wins in the bottom of the sixth, before once again holding off the Knights in their final at-bat the following frame.

Meyer and Veldhuisen both scored on a Dugan Kluis RBI double with a hit to center field, as Kluis then next scored with the help of an RBI line-drive single from Schneider to ultimately end the game.

MCC outhit RTR 7-1 on the day, with both teams giving up two errors.

For the Knights, Brayden Chandler got the start and spent the first 3 1/3 innings on the mound. He finished his time with four strikeouts, allowing four walks, three hits and three runs. Gavin Schreurs relieved the final 2 2/3 innings, also tossing four strikeouts while allowing one walk, three runs and four hits.

MCC (6-0) will hit the road over to Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

RTR (5-2) will look to bounce back when it stays on the road to take on Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

GRANITE FALLS — Five different players hit a double in the Yellow Medicine East baseball team’s 8-0 win over Lakeview Monday night.

The Sting got right to business with five quick runs in the first inning, and chipped away with another one in the second and two more in the eighth as the remainder of the night when scoreless.

Lane Wohlman had a strong night at the plate, leading the Sting going 3 for 3 at-bat with a team-high three RBIs.

Dane Hildahl, Drew Monson, Gunnar Fagen, Hayden Kuehl and Wohlman accounted for YME’s five doubles, each hitting one.

Fagen scored the Stings’ first run of the night and got the first-inning rally started, running home on a Wohlman RBI single. Both Wohlman and Gavin Torvik were then able to charge home on Hildahl’s two-run RBI double on a line drive to left field.

Max Pederson and Caysen Lien accounted for the final two runs, scoring on a Lien and Aaden Kuehn RBI, respectively.

Liam Anderson got the win on the mound and led YME defensively, throwing six strikeouts while allowing two hits and two balls in his five-inning shutout performance. Torvik came in to relieve for 1 2/3 innings, tossing four strikeouts with two hits.

For the Lakers, Braylon Breyfogle spent a majority of the time on the mound for 4 2/3 innings. He finished his day with five strikeouts, allowing 10 hits, six earned runs and four walks.

Lakeview (0-4) will look to pick up a win when it travels to Dawson-Boyd on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

YME (2-2) will also hit the road and travel to take on Lac qui Parle Valley on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Canby 8, RCW 1

RENVILLE — Morgen Tol had a big day on both ends of the field to lead the Canby baseball team to its third-straight win with a homerun and pitched a complete game with 13 strikeouts. The Lancers defeated Renville County West 8-1 Monday night.

After Canby built a 6-1 lead with three runs in each the third and fifth innings, Tor stepped up to the plate in the top of the sixth and hit his single homerun past the left-field fence. He also allowed just one walk during his pitching performance, with the Jaguars finishing with seven hits. The Lancers had nine hits on the night, with both teams playing a clean slate with no errors.

Cody Stoll also had an efficient offensive performance, going 2 of 3 at the plate with two runs and a pair of RBIs. Will Abrahamson went 2 of 3 with two runs as well.

Hunter Kack scored the Lancers’ first run of the night in the third inning on a Cash Antony RBI single. Antony then scored behind a Stoll RBI, while Abrahamson rounded out the inning after stealing home.

RCW’s lone run of the day came in the bottom of the fourth, on an RBI single.

Stoll, Abrahamson and Antony also accounted for the three runs in the Lancers’ fifth inning.

Canby (3-1) will look to keep its momentum going when it next travels to Lac qui Parle Valley on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
