MONTEVIDEO — The Yellow Medicine East baseball team couldn’t quite find the answers for a comeback, and fell to Montevideo 17-7 Friday night in six innings. Both teams had nine hits and four errors each.
YME was the first to get on the board with three runs in the top of the first, but the Thunderhawks had a quick response with seven of their own in the bottom of the frame, and never lost sight of the lead from there.
Drew Monson scored the first Sting run in their opening plate appearance following a Gunner Fagen sacrifice ground-out. Hayden Kuehn and Lane Wohlman accounted for the other two runs, with Wohlman running in Kuehn on an RBI. Wohlman scored on a Dane Hildahl sacrifice fly.
YME were able to score twice more in the fourth inning, in addition to another run in each the fifth and sixth, but Montevideo ended the night early with another five-run rally in the sixth inning.
YME went through a handful of pitchers, with five different players seeing time on the mound. Drew Monson saw the most time with 1 2/3 innings with four strikeouts.
YME (3-4) will look to get back on track when it returns home to host Renville County West on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
