BROOKINGS, S.D. — The Canby/Minneota track and field team competed at the Scott Underwood Invitational at South Dakota State University on Monday. The Lancer girls placed seventh out of 30 teams at the invite, and the boys placed 22nd.

Canby/Minneota’s girls finished the meet with 30 points and the boys finished with 11. The Lakeview girls also placed 17th with 11 points and the boys 19th with 12.5.

Spirit Lake, Sioux Falls Christian and Brookings took the top three spots on both sides. Spirit Lake won the boys with 88.5 points, followed by Sioux Falls Christian with 81 and Brookings with 60, while Sioux Falls Christian won the girls with 130.2 followed by Spirit Lake with 81.2 and Brookings with 53.

Lakeview’s Brook Gunlogson had the top two individual performances of the meet, placing third in the 200-meter dash at 27.54 and fifth in the 100 meters at 13.32.

Canby/Minneota’s Karlie Wollum and Mya Pesek also earned a pair of top-5 finishes on the girls side. Wollum placed fourth in the high jump at 4-08 and Pesek took fifth in the 3200 meters at 5:41.00.

The Lancers had a pair of strong relay performances from Jordyn Jostock, Wollum, Brynn Kockelman and Taylor Ourada. The quartet was the 4×200-meter relay runner-up at 1:49.98 and also placed third at 50.93.

The lone area top-5 finishes on the boys side came from Canby/Minneota’s 4×400-meter relay team of Quintin McLain, Ty Rangaard, Brett Stoks and Tallen Merritt, and from Lakeview’s Thane Matthys in the pole vault.
