Jacobs leads SMSU to eighth place at Augie
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State women’s golf team competed on Monday in its final tournament prior to the league championship playing 36 holes and braving cold temperatures at the Augustana Invitational held at par 72 Elmwood Golf Course.
The scheduled two-day event was reduced to a one-day tournament due expected poor weather conditions on Tuesday.
SMSU finished in eighth place at the 12-team invite shooting a two-round total of 91-over-par 667 (334-333). Concordia-St. Paul won the team championship with a 44-over 620. Gwen Latunski from Sioux Falls earned medalist honors shooting a 7-over 151.
Isabella Jacobs led SMSU placing 23rd overall in the 73-player field at 19-over 163. She carded a 4-over 76 in the first round with an eagle and 11 pars. She shot a 15-over 87 on the final 18 with seven pars.
Meghan Pundsack placed 29th shooting a 21-over 165, with a 12-over 84 in the first round and carding a strong 9-over 81 in the second round. She had six pars and one birdie in the first 18 holes, while closing with 11 pars in round two.
Carly Hamman tied for 33rd at 23-over 167 with a strong second round. After carding a 14-over 86 with seven pars in round one, she bounced back with two birdies and eight pars in round two for a 9-over 81.
Berkley Steffen tied for 43rd carding a 29-over 173. She had five pars in round one while shooting a 16-over 88, before lowering to a 13-over 85 in the round two with seven pars.
Allie Nedved shot a 15-over 87 in the first round with one birdie and five pars, while recording a 19-over 91 in round two with four pars to finish 51st at 34-over 178.
Roni Hook shot rounds of 92 and 103 to finish tied for 66th at 51-over 195 while Natalie Appel also shot a 195 with scores of 91 and 104. Both played as individuals on Monday.
SMSU will now more than weeks off before competing at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship on April 22-24 at Adams Point Golf Club in Blue Springs, Mo.
