Irlbeck homers’ in Wabasso’s win over RTR

TYLER — Camryn Irlbeck hit a homerun to help highlight the Wabasso softball team’s 8-5 win over Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Friday night. RTR’s Laken Baartman also got herself a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning.

In a back-and-forth matchup, RTR first took a 5-2 lead following a strong four-run second inning.

But, Wabasso turned things around and kept the Knights scoreless the rest of the night while scoring three runs in the fourth inning to take its first lead.

Audrey Johnson went 2-for-4 at the plate along with a pair of RBIs to lead the Rabbits offensively.

Wabasso had a hitting advantage over the Knights, 7-5. RTR also struggled with errors, giving up five to the Rabbit’s one.

Aylah Jenniges pitched the entire game, finishing with three strikeouts, three walks, five hits and five earned runs.

For the Knights, Baartman led the offense with a team-high two RBIs off her homerun, and accounted for two runs and also walked three times.

Jaida Fricke also pitched a complete game, tossing five strikeouts. She allowed three walks, seven hits and two earned runs.

Wabasso (4-0) will return home to host Sleepy Eye on Monday at 4 p.m.

RTR (0-3) will hit the road over to Yellow Medicine East at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
