Canby/Minneota girls dominate Redwood indoor meet

REDWOOD FALLS — The Canby/Minneota girls track and field team came out swinging in its first meet of the season on Tuesday. The Lancer girls dominated the indoor track meet, coming away with a first-place finish, while the boys team placed third out of four teams.

Canby/Minneota’s girls scored a team total of 84.5 points, beating out runner-up Redwood Valley’s 70.5 Yellow Medicine East also competed, finishing fourth.

On the boys side, Canby/Minneota’s 76 points left them just shy of runner-up Redwood Valley’s 76.5. Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda won the meet with 84 points while YME placed fourth with 47.5.

Canby/Minneota’s Karlie Wollum and Mya Pesek each picked up individual wins on the track in the 200 and 800, respectively, while Jordyn Jostock won the long jump. Wollum and Jostock also combined with Brynn Kockelman and Taylor Ourada for a first-place finish in the 4×200-meter relay, while Jostock, Ourada, Kockelman and Aubri Burmeister won the 4×400-meter relay.

YME picked up its lone first-place finish from Anjali Pullan in the 400 meters.

On the boys side, Brett Stoks was the lone area individual winner, placing first in the long jump at 5-04.

Canby/Minneota’s boys also earned a pair of relay wins. Quintin McLain, Kendon Knutson, Brett Stoks and Tallen Merritt won the 4×400, and Merritt, Knutson, James Kamrath and Owen Peterson won the 4×800.
