Blackjacks walk off Vikings on Bothun single

DAWSON — Colten Bothun’s seventh-inning single gave the Dawson-Boyd baseball team a walk-off win over Minneota in Camden Conference play Thursday.

The Blackjacks trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh when Kyan Moseng was hit by a pitch with one out, and Kameron Sather walked and Eli Olson singled to load the bases. Bothun capitalized on the opportunity, singling on an 0-2 count to score Moseng, and an error on the play allowed Sather to run home for the winning run.

Sather earned the win on the mound for Dawson-Boyd, pitching two innings of scoreless relief. He struck out three batters while giving up a walk and two hits.

Nate Hansen got the start for the Blackjacks, surrendering a pair of runs on seven hits and four walks with six strikeouts over the first five innings.

Dawson-Boyd and Minneota were locked in a scoreless tie for the first three innings, but Olson was hit by a pitch to lead off the fourth and scored on a Holland Schacherer single to break the stalemate.

Minneota responded an inning later with a pair of runs. Ian Myhre singled before scoring on a Carson Javers double, and Mason Javers singled in Carson to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead.

Mason Javers put forth a valiant effort on the mound for the Vikings, limiting Dawson-Boyd to one earned run on five hits and five walks over the game’s first six innings. He struck out 10 batters.

Bothun led Minneota with a pair of singles. Sather, Schacherer and Olson each reached base with a single and a walk.

In relief, Myhre allowed one earned and one unearned run on a hit and a walk while getting one out. Carson Javers pitched to the final batter.

Landon Esping singled three times to lead the Viking offense. Mason Javers also logged two singles and an RBI, while Carson Javers had a double, a walk and an RBI.

Dawson-Boyd improves to 2-0 and next takes on Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in Tyler on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Minneota falls to 1-1 and next hosts Renville County West Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

ADRIAN — Tyler Wichmann held the Adrian/Ellsworth scoreless through the first five innings of the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton baseball team’s Red Rock Conference opener on Thursday, but a lack of run support left the Knights needing more. RTR gave up a pair of sixth-inning runs and never recovered, falling 2-1.

The Knights led 1-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth, but a Joe Rahe walk and a Caleb Wolf single put the go-ahead run on base, and a walk to Kyler Kunkel loaded the bases with two outs.

Jackson Jenniges hit a two-run double to give Adrian/Ellsworth the lead, prompting an RTR pitching change. Brayden Chandler struck out the second batter he faced to escape the jam without further damage, but the Dragons retired the Knights in order in the top of the seventh to end the game.

Wichmann was charged with two earned runs over 5 2/3 innings in the loss. He struck out eight batters while giving up three hits and five walks.

Wichmann led off the fourth with a double and scored on a Levi Tommeraasen single with two outs. Those were the only hits of the day for RTR.

The Knights fall to 1-1 on the year and next host Dawson-Boyd (2-0) on Saturday at 1 p.m.

TMB 4, YME 2

GRANITE FALLS — Aiden Sanow’s two-run triple put the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton baseball team over the top for a 4-2 Camden Conference win over Yellow Medicine East Thursday night.

The score was tied at one run apiece heading into the top of the fifth when Griffin Zick singled and Jackson Kruse was hit by a pitch. Yellow Medicine East turned a double play to nearly end the inning, but Sanow hit a two-run triple to put the Panthers on top for good.

David Schuh earned the win on the mound for TMB, holding YME scoreless and hitless for the first three innings of his relief appearance before allowing one run and one hit as he started a fourth.

Zick threw the first three innings for TMB, giving up one earned run on four hits and a pair of walks with five strikeouts. Kruse also earned the save, facing each of the two batters he faced in the seventh.

Zick scored the game’s first run in the top of the third, drawing a walk and scoring when Schuh reached base on an error with two outs. Yet, YME responded in the bottom of the frame when Kolten Blankenhagen walked and scored on a Dane Hildahl single.

Gunnar Fagen got the start for YME, limiting TMB to an unearned run on two hits and three walks with three strikeouts over the game’s first three innings. Hildahl took the loss in relief after giving up two earned runs over two innings of work while Liam Anderson gave up one earned run over the final two frames.

Brody Hauger doubled in Kruse in the top of the seventh to give the Panthers a three-run cushion heading into the bottom of the frame. With their backs against the wall, the Sting drew three straight walks from Drew Monson, Hildahl and Fagen to load the bases with one out.Gavin Torvik singled in one run, but Kruse took over on the mound and turned a double play to end the game.

Sanow logged a pair of hits and a pair of RBIs to lead the Panthers while Hauger had another pair of hits and one RBI.Hildahl, Monsoon and Cayden Lien each finished with a hit and a walk for YME.

TMB improves to 2-1 on the year and next travels to Cottonwood to take on Lakeview at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

The Sting fall to 0-2 on the season and look to bounce back when they host BOLD today at 4:30 p.m.

Lakeview 5, RCW 4 (suspended top of fourth)

RENVILLE — The Lakeview baseball team’s game at Renville County West got suspended in the top of the fourth inning due to weather, with the Lakers hanging onto a 5-4 lead. The game will be finished at a later date to be determined.

Lakeview was up to bat when the game was called off, with Connor Moseng on first with no outs after being hit by a pitch.

The first inning was eventful between both teams, with Lakeview scoring three runs in the top of the frame as the Jaguars responded with two in the bottom of the inning.

Teagan Neuman scored the first run for the Lakers off an Easton Schmidt RBI single. Both Schmidt and Braylon Breyfogle then ran home off a two-run RBI single to right field from Brooks Smith.

Lakeview chipped in another run in each the second and third inning, just as RCW did with two more in the bottom of the third to bring the score back within a run before the suspension.

Logan Herrick pitched for the Lakers through the first three innings, tossing four strikeouts while allowing four walks, four earned runs and four hits.

At the time of the suspension, Lakeview has eight hits and no errors to RCW’s four hits and one error.

MCC 13, HLOF 1 (5 inn.)

OKABENA — Krew Schneider’s two-run homer and team-high four RBIs sparked the Murray County Central baseball team’s offense to a 13-1 mercy-rule win in five innings over Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda Thursday evening.

The Rebels were quick to action with scoring a prompt four runs in the top of the first inning, and took a 13-0 lead after scoring another three in the second followed by a dominant six-run third inning.

Schneider homered to left field in MCC’s first plate appearance in the first inning to give the Rebels a 4-0 edge, running in Levi Kopperud as well.

Teague Meyer and Cayden Veldhuisen also scored in the first, with RBIs from Veldhuisen and Dugan Kluis, respectively.

MCC held HLOF scoreless nearly the entire game, but the Coyotes scored their lone run in their final at-bat in the bottom of the fifth off a passed ball from third base.

Veldhuisen, Meyer and Danny Larson each had a double in the victory, while Kopperud had a team-high two stolen bases.

Three different pitchers saw the mound for the Rebels, with Kluis getting the win after starting the first three innings. He finished with a game-high six strikeouts, allowing no walks or runs with just two hits.

Tristan Behrends and Veldhuisen each relieved for one inning with a pair of strikeouts apiece.

MCC finished with eight hits and one error to HLOF’s two hits and four errors.

The Rebels move to a 2-0 start on the season, and will look to pick up another win when it returns home to host Minneota today with a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.
