Blackjack girls take third at Willmar Invite

WILLMAR — The Dawson-Boyd girls golf team opened up the 2026 spring season with a third-place finish at the Willmar Girls Early Season Invite Wednesday morning. The Blackjacks finished with a team score of 365 out of the eight competing teams.

Senior Alyssa Swedzinksi was the lead individual for Dawson-Boyd, taking third in the meet with a 9-over 81. She carded an eagle on hole 3 with a birdie on the 18th hole.

Swedzinkski finished one stroke behind first place, as Lac qui Parle Valley’s Molly Halvorson and New London-Spicer’s Rylie Harrier shared the top finish after both carded an 8-over 80.

Dawson-Boyd also had sophmores Kylar Hjelmeland and Claire Stratmoen finish individually in the top-10, finishing with a 13-over 85 and 19-over 91, respectively.

Hjelmeland’s performance was highlighted by a pair of birdies on holes 4 and 13.

Seventh-grader Chloe Stratmoen rounded out the Blackjacks, finishing in 28th place with a 36-over 108.

Dawson-Boyd finished three strokes behind New London-Spicer’s second-place team finish with 362. Willmar won its home invite, placing first overall with a meet-low 355.

Dawson-Boyd will next return to the green for the Marshall Invitational at the Marshall Golf Club on Monday. Both the boys and girls teams will tee-off at 1 p.m.
