WABASSO — A one-hit pitching performance by Krew Schneider and five-run third inning powered the Murray County Central baseball team to a 7-0 season-opening win against Wabasso Monday night.
Schneider was on the mound for the game’s first five innings, and tossed an impressive eight strikeouts while allowing no walks or runs with just one hit. Teague Meyer finished the final two frames, striking out three batters while also allowing one hit with no walks.
Zach Skoblik pitched the first 2 1/3 innings with one strikeout, allowing five hits and six runs while Jack Burns finished off the night with a pair of strikeouts while allowing one run and three hits in his 3 2/3 innings pitched.
Schneider and Meyer each hit a double to help lead the Rebels’ strong offense as well, and Schneider finished with a team-high three hits along with two RBIs. Tristan Behrends led with a trio of RBIs.
Skoblik also had Wabasso’s largest hit of the day with a double.
MCC outhit the Rabbits 7-3 on the day, along with committing one error to Wabasso’s two.
Wabasso (0-1) will have its home opener on Monday when it hosts New Ulm Cathedral at 5 p.m.
Murray County Central (1-0) will next travel to MACCRAY on Thursday at 5 p.m.

CLINTON — Kameron Sather drove in Kyan Moseng for an extra-innings win in the Dawson-Boyd baseball team’s season opener against Border West on Monday. Sather dropped down a bunt single with two outs in the top of the eighth to score Moseng as the Blackjacks prevailed 5-4.
In addition to getting the go-ahead hit, Sather also earned the win on the mound as a relief pitcher. He threw the final 1 2/3 innings, giving up one earned run on a hit and a walk.
Eli Olson pitched the first 2 1/3 frames, surrendering one earned and one unearned run on three hits and a pair of walks, while Colten Bothun held Border West to one unearned run on two hits with six strikeouts over 3 2/3 frames.
Nate Hansen led the Blackjacks at the plate, going 3 of 4 with an RBI, while Holland Schacherer, Aedyn Dahl and Moseng each added another pair of hits. Schacherer and Ace Larson each doubled in the game, while Dahl also drew a walk.
Dawson-Boyd trailed 3-0 through the first four innings, but tied up the game in the top of the fifth. Ryker Gruwell and Sather drew back-to-back walks and Eli Olson was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. A wild pitch scored Gruwell and Sather, and Hansen hit a ground-ball single to drive in Olson to tie the game up.
Olson walked to lead off the seventh and Dahl singled him in to give the Blackjacks a 4-3 lead, but Owen Deal drew a walk, stole second, and scored on a passed ball with two outs in the bottom of the frame to force extras.
Dawson-Boyd improves to 1-0 on the season and heads to Edgerton Tuesday to take on the Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian Dutchmen at 4:30 p.m.

RUTHTON — A trio of Russell-Tyler-Ruthton pitchers collectively threw 13 strikeouts to power the baseball team to a season-opening 11-1 win over Pipestone in five innings Monday night.
The Knights were strong on both sides of the field in the win, sparked by a four-run first inning.
Garrett Elton doubled on an infield ground ball that scored both Isaac Janish and Levi Tommeraasen, while Brayden Chandler also scored in the same at-bat off a wild pitch from third base. Tyson Burns scored the day’s first run off a Chandler RBI single.
On the mound, Kolby Louwagie got the start for the Knights and tossed five strikeouts with three walks while allowing no runs or hits in his two innings pitched.
Chandler pitched innings three and four, striking out a game-high six batters while allowing two walks, one run and three hits.
Gavin Schreurs wrapped up the evening with one inning, throwing a pair of strikeouts with no hits, walks or runs.
RTR scored another four runs in the bottom of the third inning to take an 8-0 lead, before putting the game in mercy-rule with another three in the fifth.
Elton led the Knights with a team-high three RBIs on one hit, while Chandler, Janish and Tommeraasen each accounted for two runs.
Pipestone finished with three hits and seven errors, to RTR’s two hits and four errors.
Russell-Tyler-Ruthon (1-0) will stay home to host Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Thursday with a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.

LAMBERTON — The Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove pitching had no answers for Sleepy Eye’s batters on Monday, falling 15-2 via run rule in five innings in non-conference play.
After allowing five runs in the top of the first, the RRC/WWG batters went to work in the bottom of the frame. Jordan Therkilsen singled and Jackson Jenniges walked to put two runners on with one out, and Jake Erickson singled to drive in one run. After a strikeout put two away, Trenton Blomgren singled again to cut the deficit to 5-2.
That was the last time the Falcons would score. Sleepy Eye, however, continued to pile on. The Indians tacked on two more runs in the second and fifth innings, and another six in the fourth.
Therkilsen was charged with the loss for RRC/WWG, giving up two earned and three unearned runs on three hits without getting an out. Erickson also gave up four earned runs over three innings, while Skazuff and Jenniges each gave up another pair over one frame of work.
Erickson was the lone Falcon with multiple hits, going 2 of 2 with an RBI and a triple.
RRC/WWG falls to 0-1 and returns to action today with a road matchup against Lakeview at 4:30 p.m. in Cottonwood

Benson 3, Minneota 2
BENSON — The Minneota baseball team suffered a close 3-2 loss in its season opener Monday night against Benson, after the Braves scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning and held off the Vikings in the seventh.
Minneota and Benson were tied 2-2 following the third inning and both went scoreless over the next two frames.
With the Braves up to bat in the sixth with no outs and two runners on base, a Vikings’ balk allowed Benson a run to take the 3-2 lead. The Vikings held off the other runners between a pick-off and strikeout.
Minneota scored its two runs both in the top of the third inning with an Ian Myhre RBI to score Logan Pohlen, and Myhre eventually scored off a Carson Javers single line drive.
Benson also scored both its runs in the bottom of the second.
Javers got the start for Minneota for the first five innings, tossing six strikeouts while allowing just two walks, one earned run and three hits. Creed Stassen pitched the final inning, and struck out a pair of batters while walking two and allowing one hit and one earned run.
The Vikings (0-1) will next have their home opener next Tuesday against Red Rock Central at 4:30 p.m.
