Rebels run wild at Dick Davidson Invite
MCC boys run away with win, girls take third at home meet

SLAYTON — The Murray County Central boys track and field team ran away with a first-place finish at the Dick Davidson Invitational that it hosted on Monday, nearly tripling the score of the meet runner up. The Rebel girls also placed third in the seven-team event.
MCC’s boys team finished with a score of 204, beating out Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey’s 68 and Adrian/Ellsworth’s 65.5. Russell-Tyler-Ruthton and Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central also placed sixth and seventh, with 56 and 28.5 points, respectively.
On the girls side, MCC’s 77 points trailed only Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton’s 115 and Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg’s 110. WWG/RRC took fourth with 70 points and RTR placed fifth with 63.
Lucas Kuball had a big individual day for the MCC boys, winning the 200 meters at 23.98, the 400 meters at 53.14 and the long jump at 20-10.5. He also logged a runner-up finish in the 100 at 11.69. Alexander Betz won the 800 meters for the Rebels at 2:09.08, placed third in the 1600 at 5:15.72 and anchored the 4×200-meter relay team to a third-place finish, alongside Kolten Nielsen, Henry Carlson and Beckett Stelter.
MCC also got first-place finishes from Luke Iverson in the pole vault, Gabriel Wolske in the discus and Dylan Gilbertson in the triple jump.
Bowen Hesse gave the WWG/RRC boys a first-place finish by winning the 110-meter hurdles in 16.41. Adrian Yang also placed third in the pole vault.
Braxton Hess was the top performer for the RTR boys with a runner-up finish in the Triple jump, while Jacob Nilles, Tucker Gile and Evian McConnell each took home the bronze in the 3200, the shot put and the 110-meter hurdles, respectively.
MCC’s girls team came away with a trio of first-place finishes. Individually, Holland Vogel won the 3200 meters at 14:21.55 and Charley Holm won the long jump at 14-10. In the relays, Holm led off a 4×400-meter team with Jada Jackels, Kenslee Bobeldyk and Isabela Schreier to a win in 4:36.99.
RTR’s Ava Guida also won the triple jump at 29-08.
Addison Warner and Asa Olson led the WWG/RRC squad with a pair of runner-up finishes, with Warner finishing the 1600 meters in 6:16.49 and Olson reaching a distance of 27-5.5 in the triple jump.
MCC’s track and field team returns to action at the Panther Invitational in Tracy on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m. WWG/RRC and RTR next compete at Lakeview on Thursday, April 9 at 4 p.m. and

ST. JAMES — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys track and field team placed third out of seven teams at the St. James-Madelia Invitational on Monday, while the Panthers girls team also placed seventh.
On the boys side, TMB finished with 69 points to trail only Minnesota Valley Lutheran’s 211.5 and United South Central/Alden-Conger’s 69.
The TMB girls team finished with 12 points. MVL also won the girls meet with 164 points, followed by Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton/Waterville-Elysian-Morristown with 148 and St. James-Madelia with 137.5.
Hunter Ostgaard and Tyler Arnold each earned individual first-place finishes on the day, with Ostgaard winning the 200-meter dash at 24.00 and Arnold winning the 400-meter race at 56.20. Ostgaard also had a fourth-place finish in the 100 at 12.10.
Arnold helped the TMB relay teams to a pair of podium finishes, running with Noah Schmidt, Sam Lightfoot and Owen Beier to a winning time of 9:25.58 in the 4×800 and with Braden Morgan and Sam and Eli Lightfoot in the 4×400 for a third-place finish at 3:51.20.
Myhlez Moua, Morgan, Ty Yackley and Hunter Ostgaard finished as 4×100-meter relay runners-up with a time of 46.70.
TMB’s lone top-5 finish on the girls side came in the 4×400-meter relay, where Linaye Schreier, Raelynn Schreier, Avery Anderson and Lauren Knakmuhs crossed the line at 4:49.80.
TMB next hosts Murray County Central, Wabasso, Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda, MACCRAY/Renville County West, Montevideo and Community Christian for the Panther Invite on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.
