MCC girls open golf season with a win
MT. LAKE — Lizzie Daniels and Rachael Huso tied for second as individuals in the Murray County Central girls golf team’s season-opening triangular on Thursday. The Rebels’ depth proved decisive in the meet, as MCC came away with a first-place team score of 214 to eke past Mountain Lake Area’s 218. Red Rock Central also competed but did not field a team score.
Daniels and Huso each shot an 11-over 47 on the day, tying them with MLAC’s Reagan Pederson and trailing only Nevaeh Ott’s 45.
Daniels finished her round with a pair of pars on holes 2 and 4, while Huso logged a par on hole 2.
In addition to their senior duo, the Rebels also got some help from their younger golfers. Sophomore Natalie Einck placed sixth in the meet with a 54, highlighted by pars on holes 4 and 6, while eighth grader Emersyn Meyer placed 8th out of14 golfers with a 66.
Jorga Brown led RRC with a 15-over 51. Her round was skewed by a 5-over hole 3, but she bounced back with pars before and after it, as well as another par on hole 9.
MCC boys place 2nd in season debut
MT. LAKE — The Murray County Central boys golf team finished second in its season debut at Mountain Lake Golf Club on Thursday. In a three-team meet, the Rebels compiled a team score of 204 to beat out third-place Red Rock Central’s 219, but fell behind Mountain Lake Area’s 182.
Kaden Landsman and Hunter Reese were the Rebels’ top individual performers in the meet, placing fifth and sixth. Landsman shot a 12-over 48 on the day, notching three pars in the round, while Reese shot a 14-over 50.
Gary Plotz tied MLAC’s Waylon Winters for eighth place at 15-over 51 and Jett Veldhuisen rounded out the MCC scorers in 10th place out of 16 golfers with a 55.
Max Erickson tied MCC’s Hunter Reese to finish as RRC’s top performer, carding a 50 on the day. Finn Batalden and Isac Grant tied for 11th with a 56, and Brekken Determan was the Falcons’ No. 4 scorer with a 57.
MLAC swept the top 4 spots in the triangular, led by an 8-over 44 by Aidan Olson.
MCC next competes on March 30 when it hosts Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda/Westbrook-Walnut Grove for a dual on Monday at 4 p.m.
