Marsh’s gem, Kramolisch’s four hits lead SMSU to doubleheader sweep

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Jordyn Marsh’s nine scoreless innings pitched and Riley Kramolisch’s four hits helped set the tone for the Southwest Minnesota State University softball team on the second day of THE Spring Games on Tuesday morning. The Mustangs picked up a pair of non-conference wins at the event, taking down Seton Hill (Pa.) 8-4 and Dominican (N.Y.) 2-0.
SMSU improves to 9-5 on the season and returns to action on Thursday with a game against Northwood (Mich.) at 10 a.m. and Seton Hill (Pa.) at 12:15 p.m.
GAME 1
SMSU 8, Seton Hill 4
The Mustangs trailed 4-3 heading into the bottom of the fourth when they surged ahead for good. A pair of singles by Ramsey Hopp and Lexi Ingalls put two runners in scoring position with one out, and a Carley Stych single and a Kramolisch ground out gave the Mustangs a 5-4 lead.
Hopp earned the win on the mound, giving up three earned and one unearned run over five innings. She struck out a pair of batters with no walks and seven hits allowed.
Marsh secured the save in relief, throwing two no-hit innings while striking out three batters with a walk.
SMSU put the game away in the sixth, coming on a Kramolisch RBI single, an Aliza Acker sacrifice fly and Kramolisch scoring as Grace Anderson was thrown out trying to steal second.
Kramolisch finished the game with three hits and a pair of RBIs, and Ingalls and Stych each logged a pair of singles with an RBI.
Taylor Schmitt drove in Kassidy Wittig to give Seton Hill the game’s first run in the first inning. Ingalls responded by driving in Paris Van Dyke for the Mustangs in the second, but Seton Hill went back up on an Abby Smearman RBI single to drive in Wittig in the third.
Lacey Lynn pitched all six innings for Seton Hill, giving up three earned and five unearned runs on six hits and a pair of walks.
Lynn hit an RBI double to tie the game in the fourth, was replaced on second by pinch runner McKenna DeUnger, and Rilie Moors drove in DeUnger to give the Griffins a 4-3 lead.
GAME 2
SMSU 2, Dominican 0
Marsh pitched a shutout for the Mustangs in the second game of the day, throwing all seven innings with nine strikeouts. She gave up three hits while walking one batter, improving her record to 6-0 on the year.
Emma Humpal scored what would be the game-winning run in the top of the second. She drew a four-pitch walk, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error on the play and scored on a Van Dyke sacrifice fly.
Kramolisch scored an insurance run for the Mustangs in the sixth, singling before stealing second and scoring on an Acker ground out.
Gianna Longo pitched the first six innings for Dominican, giving up one earned run on three hits and a walk with a strikeout. Melanie Fiumara threw a hitless final frame for Dominican, giving up a walk with a strikeout.
