Voigt’s 26 lead Marshall boys to win over Hutch

HUTCHINSON — Oliver Voigt’s 26-point explosion propelled the Marshall boys basketball team to a non-conference win on Tuesday night, taking down Hutchinson 81-59.

Voigt shot 12 of 19 from the field in the win and also grabbed 15 rebounds, six of which came on the offensive glass. On the defensive end, he tied Levi Maeyaert with a team-high two blocks and also came away with a steal.

Davion Xayarath and Patrick Morman aided Voigt’s scoring with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Xayarath shot 6 of 9 from the field and Morman shot 5 of 10.

Marshall led 38-31 at halftime but continued to pull away after the break to secure the win.

Marshall (13-11) returns to its home court to host South Dakota Class A No. 2 Sioux Falls Christian in its home finale on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Lakeview 72, Canby 68

CANBY — Braylon Breyfogle and Nash Bigler combined for 41 points for the Lakeview boys basketball team on Tuesday, leading the Lakers to a 72-68 Camden Conference win over Canby.

Bigler shot 5 of 10 from 3-point range and 7 of 12 from the field to finish with 20 points. Breyfogle was the Lakers’ leading scorer with 21 points on 5 of 15 shooting from the field and 9 of 11 shooting from the free-throw line. Breyfogle also grabbed 16 total and six offensive rebounds, as well as four steals on the defensive end.

Owen Peterson gave everything he had to keep the Lancers in the game. He went off for 34 points on 13 of 20 shooting, making each of his nine attempts from inside the arc and four of his 11 attempts from 3-point range. Matthew Zitzmann was the lone other Lancer in double figures with 12 points.

Lakeview (9-15) remains on the road to wrap up the regular season against Edgerton (13-8) on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

Canby (5-17) closes out its regular season at home against MACCRAY (7-17) on Monday at 7:15 p.m.

WWG 86, RRC 73

WESTBROOK — Drew Swanson and Connor Jackels combined for 55 points for the Westbrook-Walnut Grove boys basketball team on Tuesday, leading the Chargers past Red Rock Central for an 86-73 Red Rock Conference win.

Swanson finished the night with a game-high 33 points, 20 of which came in the second half, while Jackels contributed another 22 points. Tucker Krick and Jackson Jenniges also finished in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

RRC also wasn’t short on elite scoring performances. Henry Stavnes ended the night with 31 points and seven assists, while Finn Batalden added 17 points and Jordan Therkilsen contributed another 13.

Jenniges and Neil Kuehl led WWG on the glass with eight rebounds each and Carter Therkilsen led RRC with six rebounds.

Kuehl and Swanson each dished out four assists for WWG and Krick locked in on the defensive end with three steals.

Westbrook-Walnut Grove (14-10) plays its final road matchup of the regular season on Friday, taking on Edgerton (13-8) at 7:15 p.m.

Red Rock Central (6-18) opens a two-game homestand to close the regular season when it hosts Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (13-11) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

No. 2 CMC 81,

No. 8 Dawson-Boyd 74

DAWSON — Gunner Liebl and Carson Stratmoen’s elite scoring performances weren’t enough to lift the No. 8 Dawson-Boyd basketball team past No. 2 Central Minnesota Christian in its home finale Tuesday night. The Blackjacks trailed by 3 points at halftime but weren’t able to make up the difference after the break, falling 81-74 in Camden Conference play.

Liebl scored a team-high 28 points on 12 of 22 shooting from the field, also knocking down three 3-pointers. Stratmoen made a game-high four 3-pointers, finishing with 20 points on 8 of 18 shooting.

Jaxton Hastad was the Blackjacks’ primary facilitator in the loss with eight assists, followed by three each from Liebl and Stratmoen. He also logged four steals and a block, while Landon Malecek added another pair of blocks with six rebounds.

CMC was led by Logan Roelofs and Asher Wieberdink, who finished with 25 and 24 points, respectively. Eli Gerdes and Landon Taatjes each added another 16 points.

Dawson-Boyd (20-4) heads out on the road to take on Class 2A No. 2 Montevideo (21-1) in its regular-season finale on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

RCW 67, Minneota 62

MINNEOTA — Evan Jerzak’s strong shooting night wasn’t enough to get the Minneota boys basketball team in the win column Tuesday night as the Vikings fell to Renville County West 67-62 in their penultimate game of the regular season.

Jerzak ended the night with 19 points on 8 of 16 shooting from the field and 3 of 6 shooting from beyond the arc. Tristen Sussner contributed another 14 points on 5 of 17 shooting, while Ian Myhre, Easton Johnston and Landon Esping chipped in 9, 8 and 7 points, respectively.

Esping led the Vikings’ rebounding efforts with 10 total and seven offensive boards, as well as a pair of steals. Jerzak also had a block, a steal and five rebounds.

Jase Sorensen led the Vikings’ distribution efforts with five assists.

Minneota (8-17) next hosts Class 2A Luverne (17-5) for its final game of the regular season on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

MCC 68, Edgerton 56

EDGERTON — Wyatt Thompson’s two-way play helped the Murray County Central boys basketball team build an early lead over Edgerton and never look back, downing the Flying Dutchmen 68-56 in Camden Conference play.

Thompson scored a game-high 19 points on 7 of 13 shooting from the field. He also grabbed 12 rebounds and logged a pair of blocks and a pair of steals on defense.

Dugan Kluis also scored 18 points on 7 of 10 shooting.

Carter Hanson dished out five assists while Tristen Behrends and Aiden Swenson each grabbed seven rebounds.

Murray County Central (16-5) hosts Adrian/Ellsworth (3-20) for its home finale on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Wabasso 85, GFW 57

WABASSO — The Wabasso boys basketball team had four players crack double figures on Tuesday night, earning an 85-56 Tomahawk Conference win over Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop.

Caden Frericks led the Rabbits with 18 rebounds — six of which came on the offensive glass — as well as 14 points on 7 of 9 shooting. He also logged two steals on the defensive end.

Brayden Guetter once again anchored Wabasso defensively with three blocks and a steal. On the offensive end, he scored 19 points on 7 of 11 shooting with four 3-pointers, and dished out seven assists to lead the team in both categories.

Drew Kemp finished with 16 points and four assists while Jayden Remiger contributed another 11 points. Kemp and Jack Burns each also dished out four assists.

Wabasso (22-3) closes its regular season at home against Lester Prairie (8-13) Friday at 7:30 p.m.

RTR 76, MLAC 54

MT. LAKE — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton boys basketball team ended its three-game skid on Tuesday, defeating Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey 76-54 in Red Rock Conference play.

Prior to the win, the Knights had lost five of their last six games.

Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (13-11) next heads to Lamberton for a conference matchup against Red Rock Central (6-18) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL

Benson 73, YME 63

BENSON — Despite finishing with four scorers in double figures, the Yellow Medicine East girls basketball team couldn’t close out its regular season with a win on Tuesday. The Sting trailed by 3 points at halftime and never recovered, falling 73-63 in the non-conference matchup.

Bayli Sneller led the Sting scorers with 19 points on the day, knocking down five of her nine attempts from 3-point range and shooting 6 of 13 from the field. Bailey Mortensen also contributed 16 points, and Alana Almich and Charlotte Paslawski finished with 13 and 10, respectively.

Mortensen also led the Sting on the glass with 10 total rebounds, followed by eight from Paslawski and six from Almich. Paslawski got six of her eight rebounds on the offensive glass.

Defensively, Almich blocked a pair of shots and Mortenson blocked one with two steals. Sneller snagged three steals in the game.

Yellow Medicine East (8-17) now turns its attention to the Section 3A tournament. The Sting enter the postseason as the No. 7 seed in the South bracket and host No. 10 Lac qui Parle Valley in the play-in round on Thursday at 7 p.m.
