RRC picks up first win over Madelia

LAMBERTON — The Red Rock Conference girls basketball team got its first win of the season Tuesday night with a 70-55 defeat over Madelia in a non-conference matchup.

Both Madelia and RRC entered the night looking to pick up their first wins.

Kendra Schroeder powered the win with a team-high 19-points to her five assists. Paige Wondercheck followed with 18 points along with leading the Falcons with 10 rebounds, while Celia Vogel added another 9 points along with a team-high nine assists and six steals.

RRC (1-23) plays its final regular-season road game on Thursday against Edgerton (8-16) at 7:15 p.m.

WWG 72, JCC 60

JACKSON — Leah Carter erupted for 33 points to help lead the Westbrook-Walnut Grove girls basketball team to a 72-60 non-conference win on the road Tuesday night.

The Chargers had a well-balanced scoring effort to help prevail for the win over the Huskies.

Leah VanDeWiele followed with 9 points, while Kendall Jenniges had a pair of 3-pointers for 6 points.

Carlie Ross also added in another 11 points to join Carter in double-figure scoring. Hadley Jenniges tallied 7 points in the win as well.

The Chargers held a 37-26 lead at halftime, and were able to hold off the Huskies’ second-half push.

Westbrook-Walnut Grove (14-10) hosts Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (12-11) for its final home game of the regular season on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Dawson-Boyd 53, HLOF 47

FULDA — The Dawson-Boyd girls basketball team finished the regular season strong on Tuesday, pulling out a 53-47 win over Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda. The win gives the Blackjacks a .500 record for the year just a season after finishing 7-18.

Claire Stratmoen led Dawson-Boyd on Tuesday with 18 points, shooting 11 of 14 from the free-throw line. She also came away with four steals on the defensive end and grabbed six rebounds.

Alivia Estling led the Blackjacks on the boards with 10 rebounds to go along with 12 points. Alyssa Swedzinski also scored 16 points and tied Kylar Hjelmeland for second on the team with seven rebounds.

Dawson-Boyd (12-12) now awaits seeding for the Section 3A tournament, which will be announced over the weekend. The play-in round will be held at the home sites of the high seed on Thursday, Feb. 19, while the North subsection quarterfinals will be held in Montevideo on Saturday, Feb. 21.
