Rebels ride second half surge past, 78-55

LAMBERTON — The Murray County Central boys basketball team pulled away for a 78-55 win over Red Rock Central Thursday night after catching fire in the second half from the perimeter in a Red Rock Conference game.

The Rebels held a slight 32-31 edge at the break after a competitive back-and-forth first half between them and the Falcons.

Yet, MCC erupted for 12 3-pointers in the second half to take a double-digit lead and finished the night off the rest of the way. The Rebels finished the game with 18 3s total.

Max Miller led MCC with 18 points on 6 for 9 shooting from deep, while Tayden Beerman went 5 of 8 from 3-point range for 17 points. Wyatt Thompson followed with another 10 with a team-high three blocks.

Aiden Swenson led the Rebels with11 rebounds to his 6 points. Carter Hanson finished with a team-high three steals and seven assists.

The Rebels outrebounded the Falcons 32-16, and MCC also went the entire night without shooting a free throw.

For RRC, Henry Stavnes led the way with 25 points while Austin Imker followed with 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Abe Stavnes also led with four assists.

Murray County Central (12-5) travels to Tracy for a non-conference game against Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (8-10) on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Red Rock Central (6-15) next heads to Edgerton to take on the Edgerton Dutchmen (11-6) on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

No. 10 Dawson-Boyd 85, RCW 43

RENVILLE — Gunner Liebl and Jaxton Hastad each notched a double-double to power the tenth-ranked Dawon-Boyd boys basketball team to an 85-43 Camden Conference win on the road Thursday night.

Hastad led the Blackjacks with 25 points on 6 for 10 shooting, also going 3 for 5 from the perimeter, and 11 rebounds.

Liebl followed with 18 points behind four 3-pointers and gave out a team-high 12 assists, along with eight rebounds.

Carson Stratmoen also added another 16 points on 60% shooting and went 4 for 7 from 3-point range, while Cale Tufto was the fourth to finish in double-figure scoring with 11 points while shooting 80% from the field, going 4 of 5.

Dawson-Boyd’s was efficient from all areas of the floor. The Blackjacks finished with 14 3-pointers on 45% shooting, and went 52% in the field. They did just the same on the defensive end, finishing with 37 rebounds a.d 10 steals.

27 of Dawson-Boyd’s rebounds came off the defensive glass.

RCW was held to 25% field-goal shooting and had just three 3s on the night, and finished with 28 rebounds.

The Blackjacks also built a 56-24 halftime lead, and never looked back.

Dawson-Boyd (16-3) returns to action tonight when it heads to Kerkhoven for a game against Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (13-4) at 7:30 p.m.

Wabasso 94, YME 38

WABASSO — Drew Kemp’s 24 points paced the Wabasso boys basketball to a non-conference win on Thursday as the Rabbits took down Yellow Medicine East 94-38.

Kemp shot 9 of 17 from the field and 2 of 4 from beyond the arc in the win. His nine assists were also a team-high, coming on just two turnovers, and he came away with four steals on defense.

Caden Frericks led the Rabbits’ rebounding efforts with 10 boards, followed by seven from Jayden Remiger. Frericks also tied Brooks Baune for third on the team with 10 points, trailing Kemp and Brayden Guetter’s 17.

Gavin Torvik led YME with 10 points on 5 of 10 shooting, as well as a team-high six rebounds.

Wabasso (19-2) heads out on the road to take on undefeated No. 9 Benson (17-0) tonight at 6:45 p.m.

Yellow Medicine East (3-16) gets back to Granite Falls on Monday to host Westbrook-Walnut Grove (10-8) at 7:15 p.m.

WWG 78, MLAC 62

WESTBROOK — Drew Swanson exploded for 37 points and 10 rebounds to help the Westbrook-Walnut Grove boys basketball team prevail for a 78-62 win over Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey Thursday night in a Red Rock Conference game.

Swanson shot well from everywhere on the court with five 3-pointers and went 6 for 7 from the free throw line.

Connor Jackels and Neil Kuehl finished with another 10 points a piece, with Kuehl also dishing out a team-high six assists. Max Wiborg also grabbed eight boards alongside his 6 points.

The Chargers had 11 3-pointers on the night, and overall went 17 of 22 at the foul line.

Westbrook-Walnut Grove (11-8) takes on Adrian/Ellsworth (3-16) in its next game tonight at 7:30 p.m.

RTR 59, HLOF 27

OKABENA — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton boys basketball team defeated Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda Thursday night in a Red Rock Conference game.

Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (12-8) returns to its home court to host Murray County Central (12-5) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

LQPV 70, Lakeview 56

COTTONWOOD — The Lakeview boys basketball team came up short in a 70-56 Camden Conference loss to Lac qui Parle Valley Thursday night.
