No. 4 Marshall wraps up regular season with win over Tea

Marshall 70, Tea Area (S.D.) 42

TEA, S.D. — The fourth-ranked Marshall girls basketball team came out on fire in its regular-season finale against Tea Area (S.D.) Thursday night. The Tigers doubled up the Tigans by halftime, coasting to a 70-42 win behind four scorers in double figures.

Reese Drake helped lead Marshall in the win with a game-high seven assists on two turnovers. Her six total rebounds and two blocks were also both game-highs.

Taleigha Bigler finished as Marshall’s leading scorer with 14 points on 4 of 7 shooting from the field. She also grabbed five rebounds in the win.

Danielle Nubile and Drake each scored 13 points for the Tigers in the game, shooting 5 of 7 and 5 of 11, respectively. Avery Schneekloth also shot 6 of 9 from the field for 12 points.

Marshall finishes its regular season with a 22-4 record and now awaits seeding for the Section 2AAA tournament, which will begin Tuesday at the home site of the high seed. The Tigers enter the postseason aiming to repeat as section champions and claim their third state tournament berth in four years.

No. 8 Wabasso 48, No. 9 RCW 42

WABASSO — The No. 8 Wabasso girls basketball team survived and advanced following a competitive 48-42 win over No. 8 Renville County West in the Section 3A North subsection play-in round Thursday night.

Ava Samyn led the way with 14 points and shot 4 of 6 from the foul line, along with seven rebounds and a block. Kenley Guetter controlled the glass with a team-high 14 rebounds to her 4 points, while Cassie Bliss had team-highs of four assists and four steals along with 10 points.

The Rabbits had a strong performance on the boards, and outrebounded the Jaguars 42-23.

Wabasso (9-18) will now move onto the North subsection quarterfinals to take on top-seeded Central Minnesota Christian (22-3) on Saturday at Montevideo High School with an 11 a.m. tip off. The winner from there will advance to the subsection semifinals, to be played next Tuesday back at Montevideo.

No. 7 Yellow Medicine East 68, No. 10 LQPV 56

GRANITE FALLS — The No. 7 Yellow Medicine East girls basketball team came away with a 68-56 win over No. 10 Lac qui Parle Valley Thursday night in the Section 3A North subsection play-in round.

Four players scored in double-figures for a well-balanced offensive effort to help propel the Sting forward.

Bayli Sneller led the way with 17 points on 60% shooting, and also shot a team-best 3 of 4 from deep.

Charlotte Paslawski followed with 15 points and shot 5 of 6 from the foul line, while Bailey Mortenson and Alana Almich added in another 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Mortenson also recorded a double-double behind her team-high 15 rebounds, while Almich followed with seven boards.

Despite being outscored in the second half by the Eagles, YME built a strong 20-point halftime lead, 35-15, which was enough to prevail for the win down the stretch.

With the win, YME (9-17) now advances to Saturday’s subsection quarterfinals and will take on second-seeded MACCRAY (18-7) at Montevideo High School with a 2:30 p.m. tip off. The winner from there will move onto the subsection semifinals next Tuesday, again at Montevideo.

No. 7 HLOF 70, No. 10 RRC 32

FULDA — The Red Rock Central girls basketball team’s season came to an end in the play-in round of the Section 3A tournament Thursday night. Heading into the postseason as the 10th seed in the South bracket, the Falcons fell 70-32 to No. 7 Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda.

Kendra Schroeder finished with a team-high 10 points and five rebounds, while senior Deann Roiger grabbed eight rebounds and scored 4 points in her final game with the team.

RRC finishes its season at 1-25, and graduates senior Ally Linder in addition to Roiger.
