MARSHALL — The Marshall girls hockey team earned the top seed in this year’s Section 3A tournament upon the bracket’s announcement on Saturday.

The Tigers finished the regular season with a 21-4-0 record. Most recently, the Tigers defeated Luverne twice last week, with the latter of those two matchups earning the Tigers their latest Big South Conference championship.

Marshall and Luverne have met in the Section 3A championship game each of the last two seasons. Luverne defeated Marshall in 2024 but the Tigers won last year to claim their first state tournament appearance since 2018. Luverne finished this year’s regular season at 16-9-0 to earn the second seed in the section.

As the top seed, Marshall earns a first-round bye in the seven-team section. Marshall will host the winner of No. 4 New Ulm and No. 5 Worthington in the section semifinals on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Red Baron Arena. With a win, Marshall would advance to the section championship at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter for the third consecutive season.

The section championship game is slated for Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m.

On the opposite side of the bracket, Luverne will host No. 7 MBA Storm while No. 3 Fairmont will host No. 6 Windom Area.

Marshall enters the section tournament ranked No. 7 in Class A.

Starting at $3.95/week.
