Marshall boys stay hot with back-to-back wins over TCU, No. 10 BP

Marshall 76, No. 10 Belle Plaine 63
BELLE PLAINE — The Marshall boys basketball team continued to heat up on Monday, picking up its fourth win in its last five games by downing Class AA No. 10 Belle Plaine 76-63 in Big South Conference play.
The Tigers’ only loss in their last five games came against No. 2 Montevideo. Aside from that, Marshall has held three of the other four opponents to fewer than 60 points.
Levi Maeyaert led a group of five Tigers scoring in double figures, shooting 8 of 12 from the field for 20 points. Andrew Lee also shot 5 of 8 for 14 points, followed by 12 from Oliver Voigt and 10 each from Patrick Morman and Noah Pieper.
Voigt’s nine rebounds and three assists were both team-highs on the night. He didn’t turn the ball over and came away with two steals and three blocks on the defensive end.
Maeyaert also made a major defensive impact with three steals and a block.
Marshall shot 51% from the field and 8 of 22 (36%) from 3, while Belle Plaine shot 35% from the field and 6 of 22 (27%) from 3.
Marshall gets above .500 at 12-11 on the season with the win and next goes on the road to take on Hutchinson (4-17) tonight at 7:15 p.m.
Marshall 85, TCU 36
MONTGOMERY — Aidan Bly scored a game-high 17 points for the Marshall boys basketball team in the Tigers’ 85-36 Big South Conference win over Tri-City United on Saturday.
Bly shot 6 of 8 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers in the win, also tying Andrew Lee and Carson Mensink for second on the team with two steals behind Oliver Voigt and Patrick Morman’s three. Marshall won the turnover battle 8-21.
Voigt added another 15 points on 7 of 10 shooting with a block. Marshall had 14 different players hit a shot in the win.
Logan Eickhoff grabbed four rebounds to lead Marshall on the glass. TCU and Marshall each grabbed 21 total rebounds on the day.
Pipestone 76, Minneota 59
MINNEOTA — The Pipestone Arrows had too much scoring depth for the Minneota boys basketball team to contain on Monday night as the Class 2A Arrows handed the Vikings a 76-59 non-conference loss.
Easton Johnston was Minneota’s leading scorer with 14 points on 5 of 14 shooting. Ian Myhre contributed another 13 points, and Tristen Sussner and Evan Jerzak each finished with another 10.
Landon Esping led the Vikings on the glass with seven rebounds, and his three blocks were also a game-high.
Jase Sorensen and Jerzak dished out five and four assists, respectively.
Minneota shot 32% from the field and 12 of 38 (32%) from 3 in the loss. Pipestone, meanwhile, shot 54% from the field and 8 of 22 (36%) from 3. The Arrows had four scorers in double figures, including 25 points from Blake Bosma and 17 from Austin Musch.
Minneota falls to 8-17 and returns to Camden Conference play when it hosts Renville County West (16-6) tonight at 7 p.m.
No. 8 Dawson-Boyd 88, DGF 56
GLYNDON — Gunner Liebl’s 30-point near-triple-double led the Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team to a non-conference win over Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Saturday, 88-56.
Liebl shot 11 of 18 from the field and 6 of 10 from 3-point range. He also dished out seven assists on two turnovers and grabbed nine total rebounds.
Jaxton Hastad led Dawson-Boyd on the glass with 10 total rebounds, tying Landon Malecek with four offensive boards. He also dished out six assists in the win while Carson Stratmoen contributed another five.
Stratmoen shot 6 of 13 from beyond the arc for 18 points. Hastad and Malecek also finished in double figures with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
Cale Tufto blocked a pair of shots and Caden Brent, Stratmoen and Malecek each blocked another.
Dawson-Boyd improves to 20-3 with the win and next hosts No. 2 Central Minnesota Christian (22-1) for its final home game of the season tonight at 7:30 p.m.
Pipestone 57, RTR 44
PIPESTONE — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton boys basketball fell 57-44 to Class AA Pipestone on Saturday, marking the Knights’ fifth loss in their last six games.
Stats were unavailable for the Knights.
RTR falls to 12-11 with the loss and returns to action tonight with a road matchup against Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey (3-20) at 7:30 p.m.
