Blackjacks’ upset bid falls short vs. CMC

Prep basketball roundup Feb. 3, 2026

No. 6 CMC 53, Dawson-Boyd 44

DAWSON — A strong defensive performance against one of southwest Minnesota’s top teams wasn’t enough to get the Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks into the win column on Tuesday. The Blackjacks held the sixth-ranked Central Minnesota Christian Bluejays to 21 points in the first half, earning Dawson-Boyd a 6-point lead at halftime, but CMC rallied after the break to down Dawson-Boyd 53-44.

Tuesday’s game marked the second-fewest points in a game scored by CMC this season, the lone lower mark being a 52-42 win over MACCRAY on Dec. 4, the Bluejays’ second game of the season. CMC has been held to fewer than 60 points just three times in 19 games this year, and fewer than 70 points just six times.

Alivia Estling dominated the glass for Dawson-Boyd in the loss, grabbing 18 total and four offensive rebounds. Her three assists were also a team-high, and her 12 points tied Claire Stratmoen for a team-high.

Estling shot 6 of 13 from the field while Stratmoen shot 5 of 8 with a pair of 3s. Kylar Hjelmeland also scored 10 points on 4 of 9 shooting.

Dawson-Boyd shot 41% from the field and 6 of 16 (37%) from 3. CMC shot 33% from the field and 5 of 14 (35%) from 3, but it generated extra possessions with an 11-21 edge in the turnover battle.

Stratmoen snagged three steals and tied Alyssa Swedzinski with five rebounds, while Estling also blocked a shot.

Sienna Duininck led CMC with 22 points on 10 of 24 shooting.

Dawson-Boyd falls to 9-12 with the loss and next goes on the road to take on Ortonville (0-21) on Thursday at 7 p.m.
