Zick leads the Panthers past LQPV

MADISON — Griffin Zick stuffed the stat sheet for the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys basketball team on Thursday night, leading the Panthers to an 85-63 win over Lac qui Parle Valley in Camden Conference play.

Zick finished as the Panther’s leading scorer with 28 points on 11 of 23 shooting with four 3-pointers. He also led the Panthers defensively with eight steals, and his seven rebounds and six assists were both team-highs.

Sy Sanders and Connor Lanoue tied Zick with six assists each. Lannoue also scored 18 points on 5 of 9 shooting and Sanders made a defensive impact with four steals.

Jackson Kruse scored 10 points for the Panthers.

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton improves to 7-8 with the win and hosts Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (11-2) for its next game on Friday at 7:15 p.m.

MACCRAY 57, Lakeview 52

CLARA CITY — Braylon Breyfogle’s 19 points weren’t enough for the Lakeview boys basketball team to steal a win against MACCRAY on Thursday night. The Lakers outscored the Wolverines by 3 in the second half, but the 8-point halftime deficit was too much to overcome in the 57-52 Camden Conference loss.

In addition to Breyfogle’s scoring, the Lakers also got 9 points from Trevor Tusberg and 8 from Ian Taylor.

Lakeview (6-11) looks to get back in the win column when it heads to Slayton for a non-conference matchup against Slayton (8-4) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

No. 9 Wabasso 94, Sleepy Eye 66

SLEEPY EYE — Caden Frericks posted a 28-point double-double for the ninth-ranked Wabasso boys basketball team on Thursday night as the Rabbits picked up a 94-66 Tomahawk Conference win over Sleepy Eye.

Frericks finished the game as Wabasso’s leading scorer, shooting 12 of 13 from the field. His 17 total and eight offensive rebounds were both team-highs, and his three steals tied Brooks Baune for a team-high.

Brayden Guetter made an all-around effort for the Rabbits with 19 points, 10 rebounds and a block. His four assists trailed only Baune’s five and Jack Burns’ seven.

Drew Kemp scored 23 points on 10 of 17 shooting with six rebounds and a pair of steals in the win.

Wabasso improves to 15-1 on the season and hosts Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s (9-4) in its next game on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

Dawson-Boyd 85, Minneota 52

DAWSON — Gunner Liebl and Jaxton Hastad combined for 58 points for the Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team on Thursday night, culminating in an 85-52 Camden Conference win over Minneota.

Liebl scored a game-high 34 points on 14 of 20 shooting from the field and 4 of 6 shooting from distance. Hastad, meanwhile, added another 24 points on 12 of 14 shooting. The two also each dished out three assists, tying for second on the team to Carson Stratmoen’s six.

Landon Malacek led the Blackjacks on the glass with 12 rebounds while Hastad added another 10. The duo each grabbed eight offensive boards and each blocked two shots, along with four steals for Hastad.

Leo Hennen led Minneota’s scorers with 13 points on 5 of 12 shooting, including 3 of 9 from beyond the arc. His four rebounds were also tied with Easton Johnston for a team-high behind Kyson Arndt’s five. Four of Arndt’s five rebounds came on the offensive glass.

Dawson-Boyd improves to 12-2 on the year with the win and next takes on De Smet (S.D.) at Colman-Egan High School in South Dakota on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Minneota falls to 3-11 on the year and looks to end its three-game skid when it takes on Southwest Minnesota Christian (12-1) in Edgerton on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

RTR 62, RRC 58

TYLER — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton boys basketball team hung on for a 62-58 win over Red Rock Central Thursday evening.

The Falcons put together a fight after facing a 31-25 halftime deficit, and cut the score down to 2 points with about 10 seconds to play. Yet, the Knights made a pair of free throws with four seconds to play to prevail for the victory.

RRC was down by as many as 13 points in the game.

Henry Stavnes again had a big night for RRC with 37 points, eight rebounds and three steals.

Jordan Therkilsen added in another 10 points, while Carter Therkilsen finished with six rebounds and four assists.

RRC (5-12) will look to get back in the win column when it hosts Canby (2-13) on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

RTR moves to 9-6 on the season, and will look for its fourth straight win when it hosts Adrian-Ellsworth (3-11) on Monday with a 7:30 p.m. tip off.

Ortonville 70, Canby 35

ORTONVILLE — The Canby boys basketball team suffered a 70-35 loss to Ortonville Thursday night on the road.

Will Abrahamson led the Lancers with a 12-point, 13-rebound double-double. Owen Peterson followed with 9 points and shot 3 for 4 from the foul line, while Jace Rangaard finished with 6 points and went 4 for 6 in free throws.

Abrahamson led Canby from deep, shooting 2 for 4. Peterson also had a team-high three steals.

Canby (2-13) will next stay on the road to take on Hancock (9-3) at 7:15 p.m. on Monday.
