Zick, Lanoue lead TMB past MACCRAY in double-OT thriller

TRACY — Griffin Zick and Connor Lanoue led the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys basketball team back from a halftime deficit to a double-overtime win over MACCRAY on Monday in Camden Conference play. The Panthers trailed by 4 at the midway point, but battled back to tie it at 63-all at the end of regulation, eventually resulting in an 85-77 win for the Panthers.
Lanoue led TMB in assists with 11 and his six rebounds were tied with Jackson Kruse for third on the team behind Aiden Sanow’s 13 and Eli Lightfoot’s nine. Lanoue also scored 23 points on 7 of 16 shooting from the field with four 3-pointers.
Zick was red-hot from 3-point range all night, shooting 7 of 20 from long range to finish with a game-high 31 points. He also dished out five assists.
Lanoue and Kruse each snagged five steals on the night while Zick, Sanow, Lightfoot and Emery Xiong each recorded another three.
Tracy-Milroy-Balaton improves to 8-8 on the season and looks to get above .500 when it goes on the road to take on Ortonville (7-9) on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Dawson-Boyd 86, YME 50
GRANITE FALLS — Gunner Liebl, Jaxton Hastad and Carson Stratmoen combined for 56 points to power the Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team to a 86-50 win over Yellow Medicine East Monday night. Kia Greycloud led the Sting with 24 points of 52% shooting.
The Blackjacks took control early and built a 60-27 lead by halftime, with an all-around strong team effort on both ends of the floor.
Hastad led the way with 23 points and seven steals, while Liebl followed with 18 points on 4 for 8 shooting from deep. Stratmoen finished with another 15 points with a trio of 3s.
YME was outrebounded 35-27, along with Dawson-Boyd grabbing 14 steals to the Stings’ four.
Notably, Dawson-Boyd’s selfless play shined with 25 assists on 35 field goals. Liebl had a team-high seven assists, while Stratmoen followed with six more. Hastad also dished out five assists.
Landon Malecek had a near double-double with 8 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
For the Sting, Gunner Fagen also finished in double figures with 13 points and a team-high three steals. Cooper McCosh led YME with 10 rebounds to his 6 points.
Dawson-Boyd finished the night shooting 48% from the field along with 10 3-pointers, and held YME to a 34% shooting clip with four 3-pointers.
The Blackjacks move to 13-3 overall and will next take on No. 9 Wabasso (15-1) on the road Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
YME (2-12) will next hit the road to Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (11-2) at 7:15 p.m. today.
De Smet (S.D.) 81, Dawson-Boyd 80
COLMAN — It took a herculean individual effort to down the Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team on Saturday as the Blackjacks fell 81-80 to De Smet (S.D.) despite a combined 52 points from Gunner Liebl and Jaxton Hastad.
The Blackjacks contained most of De Smet’s scorers on the day, but the 6-foot-10 Grant Wilkinson was too much for the Dawson-Boyd defense to handle. The Bulldogs’ leading scorer went off for 44 points on 15 of 26 shooting from the field and 14 of 17 shooting from the free-throw line to down the Blackjacks.
Liebl led Dawson-Boyd’s offensive efforts on the night with 28 points on 12 of 21 shooting and four 3-pointers. His five assists and six rebounds also each ranked second on the team.
Hastad led Dawson-Boyd in assists and rebounds with six and eight. He also chipped in 24 points on 10 of 18 shooting.
Carson Stratmoen dished out four assists with three steals in the loss while Landon Malecek blocked a pair of shots.
