Swanson leads WWG past HLOF

WWG 77, HLOF 47

WESTBROOK — Drew Swanson’s 26 points, eight rebounds and six assists led the Westbrook-Walnut Grove boys basketball team to a dominant 77-47 win over Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda Friday night. Swanson also had a team-high four 3-pointers.

Jackson Jenniges followed with another 17 points and nine rebounds, as did Neil Kuehl with 11 points, eight boards and six assists.

Max Wiborg was the fourth Charger to finish in double-digit scoring with another 12 points.

WWG (7-3) will look to pick up its third consecutive win when it hits the road to Southwest Minnesota Christian (8-1) on Monday with a 7:15 p.m. tip off.

No. 7 Dawson-Boyd 67,

Lakeview 41

COTTONWOOD — Gunner Liebl and Jaxton Hastad combined for 46 points to power the No. 7 Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team to a 67-42 win Friday night, led by Hastad’s 22-point and 15-rebound double-double, along with a team-high four blocks and three steals. Liebl led all scorers with 24 points on 52% shooting and three assists.

Carson Stratmoen also dished in 15 points along with five rebounds.

Braylon Breyfogle led the Lakers with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Cody Helmke had a team-high 11 boards to his 8 points.

The Blackjacks and Lakers had a competitive fight in the first half, with Dawson-Boyd holding a 5-point edge, 25-20.

Yet, Dawson-Boyd’s efficient shooting and defense made the difference down the stretch. The Blackjacks finished with five blocks and eight steals to Lakeview’s four steals.

The Lakers finished the night shooting 27% from the field to the Blackjacks’ 39%. Both grabbed a total of 41 rebounds.

Dawson-Boyd (10-2) will next return home to host Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (6-6) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Lakeview (5-9) will hit the road to take on Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (8-2), also at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

SWC 74, RRC 49

EDGERTON — The Red Rock Central boys basketball team wasn’t able to build on its momentum from Thursday’s win, falling 74-49 to Southwest Minnesota Christian in Red Rock Conference play.

Henry Stavnes led the Falcon scorers with 18 points on the night while Abe Stavnes added seven rebounds and Jordan Therkilsen dished out four assists.

Red Rock Central falls to 2-10 on the season and next goes on the road to take on Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey (1-9) on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

YME 66, LQPV 52

GRANITE FALLS — The Yellow Medicine East boys basketball team snapped a three-game skid with a 66-52 win over Lac qui Parle Valley Friday night. Gunner Fagen led the way with a 19-point, 12-rebound double-double.

The Sting had a well-balanced scoring effort, with Gavin Torvik leading the way with 22 points on 58% shooting and went 5 of 9 from the 3-point line, along with a team-high three steals.

Kia Greycloud followed with another 15 points and a trio of 3s, along with six rebounds and two steals. Cooper McCosh grabbed another 11 rebounds.

YME shot 44% from the field and 50% from the perimeter, going 11 of 22.

The Sting (2-8) will look to pick up another win when they travel to take on MACCRAY (4-9) in Clara City on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

No. 10 Wabasso 102,

Cedar Mountain 48

WABASSO — The No. 10 Wabasso boys baseball team surpassed 100 points for the third time this season, cruising past Cedar Mountain 102-48 Friday night.

Caden Frericks finished with a double-double of 10 points and 16 rebounds, while Drew Kemp led the Rabbits with 23 points and eight assists. Kemp also shot a team-high 5 of 10 from deep.

Brayden Guetter added another 21 points and five assists, while Tavyn Larson followed with 15 points. Jayden Remiger had seven rebounds. Guetter and Frericks both had three steals as well.

Wabasso dished out 27 assists as a team, along with grabbing 47 rebounds and 12 steals.

The Rabbits also defeated Sleepy Eye 101-71 and Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 102-60 earlier this season.

Wabasso moved to a perfect 11-0 record, and will look to keep its stride going when it travels to take on Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (5-4) on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

No. 5 HBC 65, RTR 40

TYLER — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton boys basketball team suffered a 65-40 loss to fifth-ranked Hills-Beaver Creek Friday night.

RTR (6-5) will look to get back on track when it travels to Murray County Central (6-3) next Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

No. 9 CMC 101, TMB 39

TRACY — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys basketball team were defeated 101-39 by undefeated No. 9 Central Minnesota Christian Friday night.

TMB (6-6) will next face No. 6 Dawson-Boyd (10-2) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

MCC 84, MLAC 63

MT. LAKE — The Murray County Central boys basketball team got back into the win column Friday, running away with an 84-63 win over Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey in Red Rock Conference play.

The Rebels (6-3) will look to carry their momentum into their next home game on Monday, when they host undefeated No. 5 Hills-Beaver Creek (9-0) at 7:30 p.m.

KMS 72, Canby 31

CANBY — The Canby boys basketball team couldn’t get back into the win column on Friday, falling 72-31 to Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg in Camden Conference play.

The Lancers fall to 1-9 on the year and look to end their eight-game slide when they head to Madison to take on Lac qui Parle Valley (0-13) on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
