Stratmoen’s 33 points lift DB past Braves

DAWSON — Claire Stratmoen’s offensive explosion accounted for nearly half of the Dawson-Boyd girls basketball team’s points on Tuesday night as the Blackjacks picked up a 67-48 non-conference win over Benson.
Johnson shot 14 of 25 from the field and knocked down four of her 10 attempts from long range to finish with a game-high 33 points, aided by another 12 from Alyssa Swedzinski and 10 from Kylar Hjelmeland. Stratmoen also snagged 11 steals on defense for a double-double, and her seven rebounds and four assists were both team-highs. Swedzinski also had a game-high four offensive rebounds for the Blackjacks.
Dawson-Boyd (5-7) hits the road on Thursday with a matchup against Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (3-8) in Tracy at 7:15 p.m.
BLHS 74, Wabasso 55
WABASSO — After finding a spark over the last few weeks with a three-game win streak, the Wabasso girls basketball team suffered its first setback of the new year against Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday. The Rabbits fell behind early and never recovered, losing 74-55.
Kenley Guetter and Sara Carlson did their part to keep the Rabbits competitive. Guetter scored 23 points on 7 of 9 shooting from the field and knocked down nine of her 12 attempts from the free-throw line. Carlson added another 15 points while shooting 3 of 7 from 3-point range.
Guetter also dominated the glass with seven offensive and four defensive rebounds. She and Ava Samyn each came away with two steals and a block on the defensive end, while Audrey Johnson and Carlson each logged three steals.
Kayleigha Johnson dished out a team-leading four assists.
Wabasso (5-8) looks to get back into winning form when it goes on the road to take on Cedar Mountain (7-2) on Friday at 7:15 p.m.
