Stratmoen’s 30 points power Blackjacks past No. 9 Wabasso

WABASSO — Carson Stratmoen’s 30 points behind six 3-pointers helped the Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team hold off a redhot No. 9 Wabasso team Thursday night, handing the Rabbits just their second loss of the season.

Gunner Liebl also finished with 23 points with four 3-pointers, and shot 9 of 10 from the foul line.

Wabasso held a 37-31 edge at the break, but the Blackjacks’ perimeter shooting made a difference maker down the stretch. Dawson-Boyd finished with 12 3s and held the Rabbits to just two.

Jaxton Hastad added in another 17 points on 6 for 9 shooting.

For Wabasso, Brayden Guetter led the way with 25 points and went 6 for 8 at the free throw line, along with four assists and nine rebounds.

Caden Frericks recorded another double-double of 13 points and a team-high 16 rebounds, while Drew Kemp tallied 11 points.

Although Dawson-Boyd recently fell out of the Class A top-10 polls for the first time this season, they are still receiving votes in the latest polls that were released on Monday.

The Rabbits outrebounded the Blackjacks 42-33.

Dawson-Boyd (14-3) will next return home to host MACCRAY (7-11) at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.

Wabasso (16-2) will hit the road to face off against New Ulm Cathedral (6-11) tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.

RRC 67, HLOF 52

LAMBERTON — Finn Batalden’s 25 points off seven 3-pointers led the Red Rock Central boys team to a 67-52 win over Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda Thursday night.

The Falcons built a 30-19 lead at halftime, and were able to withstand a late push by HLOF.

Henry Stavnes followed with another 20 points, along with eight rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Jordan Therkilsen tallied 10 points, while Jake Erickson finished with another six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Ave Stavnes dished out four assists and two steals as well.

RRC (6-13) will remain at home for its second of a three-game homestand, and will host No. 5 Hills-Beaver Creek (14-1) tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.

WWG 60, A/E 48

ELLSWORTH — Jackson Jenniges posted a 16-point, 14-rebound double-double for the Westbrook-Walnut Grove boys basketball team on Thursday night as the Chargers earned a 60-48 win over Adrian/Ellsworth in Red Rock Conference play.

Drew Swanson was WWG’s leading scorer with 21 points on the night, along with eight assists and three steals, while Neil Kuehl and Max Wiborg each chipped in another 8 points

WWG (9-7) will return home to host Murray County Central (10-4) at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Ortonville 75, TMB 74

ORTONVILLE — A strong shooting night from Griffin Zick wasn’t enough to lift the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys basketball to a second-half comeback over Ortonville on Thursday in Camden Conference play. The Panthers outscored the Trojans by 4 points after the break but fell 75-74.

Zick shot 6 of 12 from 3-point range in the game for a team-high 23 points. His three steals were also a team-high.

Emery Xiong was also efficient from long range, knocking down four of his five attempts from beyond the arc to end the night as TMB’s third-leading scorer behind Zick and Sy Sanders’ 13.

Connor Lanoue dished out nine assists for TMB, while Aiden Sanow grabbed 14 rebounds.

TMB (8-9) will return home on Monday and has the tall task of taking on No. 5 Hills-Beaver Creek (14-1). Tip off is slated for 7:30 p.m.

SWMC 72, MCC 59

SLAYTON — The Murray County Central boys basketball team’s four-game winning streak came to an end on Thursday night with a 72-59 loss to Southwest Minnesota Christian in Red Rock Conference play.

Cayden Veldhuisen and Aiden Swenson each scored 14 points on 5 of 9 shooting for MCC, with Veldhuisen shooting 4 of 7 from 3-point range. Swenson’s five total rebounds were also tied with Carter Hanson for second on the team to Wyatt Thompson’s eight.

Hanson dished out seven assists in the game while Tayden Beerman scored another 12 points for MCC.

MCC (10-5) will next travel to face Westbrook-Walnut Grove (9-7) tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.

Minneota 63, LQPV 50

MADISON — The Minneota boys basketball team ended a five-game skid with a 63-50 win over Lac qui Parle Valley on the road Thursday night.

Minneota (4-13) will return home to host Yellow Medicine East (2-13) today at 7 p.m.

RTR 72, Edgerton 61

TYLER — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton boys basketball team extended its win streak to five games after defeating Edgerton 72-61 Thursday night.

RTR (11-6) will next hit the road tomorrow to take on Southwest Minnesota Christian (14-2) at 7:30 p.m.

Lakeview 78, BLHS 61

COTTONWOOD — The Lakeview boys basketball team defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 78-61 Friday night.

Lakeview (7-12) will remain at home and will next host Lac qui Parle Valley (1-18) next Thursday at 5:45 p.m.
