OKABENA — Henry Stavnes’ 39-point double-double propelled the Red Rock Central boys basketball team back into the win column on Thursday night. Hosting the Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda Coyotes for a Red Rock Conference matchup, the Falcons built up a 10-point lead at halftime and pulled away for a 65-47 win.
In addition to his 39 points, Henry Stavnes also grabbed 10 rebounds and shot a perfect 10 of 10 from the free-throw line. Abe Stavnes added another eight rebounds.
Red Rock Central (2-9) faces off against Southwest Minnesota Christian (7-1) for its next game tonight at 7:15 p.m.
No. 6 Dawson-Boyd 92, Canby 44
DAWSON — Gunner Liebl nearly outscored the Canby by himself in the Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team’s Thursday night Camden Conference matchup. The senior guard erupted for 43 points as the Blackjacks cruised to a 92-44 win over the Lancers.
Liebl shot 17 of 23 from the field and knocked down six of his 12 attempts from 3-point range in the win. His four assists with no turnovers trailed only Jaxton Hastad’s six assists and his three steals tied Hastad for second on the team to Carson Stratmoen’s four.
Jace Rangaard and Owen Peterson were Canby’s leading scorers with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Jack Abrahamson dished out a team-high four assists with five rebounds.
Landon Malecek made a major defensive impact with four blocks in the game, and his seven rebounds trailed only Hastad’s nine.
Hastad and Tufto chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Dawson-Boyd.
Dawson-Boyd (9-2) plays again tonight when it heads to Cottonwood for a 7:15 p.m. matchup with Lakeview (5-8).
Canby (1-8) looks to end its seven-game skid when it hosts Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (7-2) tonight at 7:15 p.m.
SWMC 92, TMB 52
EDGERTON — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys basketball team suffered a 92-52 non-conference loss to Southwest Minnesota Christian Thursday night.
The Panthers fell behind early with a 63-18 halftime deficit, ultimately becoming too much of a difference to overcome down the stretch.
Griffin Zick led TMB with 18 points, four steals and six assists. Zick also shared a team-high four rebounds with Aiden Sanow, who finished with 7 points.
SWMC shot 65% from the field and 13 of 21 from the foul line, to the Panthers’ 42% field goal shooting mark and went 4 of 11 from the free throw line.
Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (6-5) continues its stretch of strong opponents tonight when it hosts No. 9 Central Minnesota Christian (9-0) at 7:15 p.m. before going on the road to face off with No. 6 Dawson-Boyd on Tuesday.
