Panthers cruise past Ortonville behind Ankrum’s 20 points

TRACY — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton girls basketball team could not be stopped in Friday’s Camden Conference matchup against Ortonville. The Panthers doubled up the Trojans by halftime and never looked back, rolling to a 65-30 win.

Melaina Ankrum led the TMB scoring efforts with 20 points on 9 of 18 shooting. Gretchen Lanoue and Allie Adams added another 11 points each, as well as a team-leading five assists from Lanoue.

Elsie Knott and Lanoue tied with a team-high seven rebounds each, and Lanoue’s four steals were second only to Ankrum’s eight.

TMB improves to 6-11 on the season with the win and hosts Renville County West (4-11) for its next game on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The matchup will be the second of the season between the two teams after TMB eked out a 51-49 win in the first.

Canby 56, Dawson-Boyd 48

CANBY — Ava Danielson’s near-double-double and Brynn Kockelman’s dynamic scoring lifted the Canby girls basketball team past Dawson-Boyd for a 56-48 Camden Conference win on Friday night.

Danielson finished the night with a game-high nine total rebounds and was the only Lancer with multiple offensive boards. She also shot an efficient 6 of 10 from the field for 15 points.

Kockelman finished the night as the game’s leading scorer with 23 points on 7 of 22 shooting from the field and 3 of 13 shooting from beyond the arc. She also grabbed eight rebounds and a steal in the game.

Alyssa Swedzinski and Alivia Estling led the Dawson-Boyd attack with 13 points, coming on 5 of 15 shooting from Estling and 5 of 16 shooting from Swedzinski with three 3-pointers.

Laura Schreier posted game-highs with eight rebounds and three steals, while Estling grabbed another seven rebounds. Claire Stratmoen also snagged three steals for the Blackjacks.

Canby improves to 8-10 with the win and aims to continue inching closer to .500 when it hosts Minneota (10-6) on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. The Vikings edged out the Lancers in the teams’ season opener on Dec. 2, with Minneota staving off a 6-0 Canby run in the final minute to hold on for a 61-60 win behind 27 points and 13 rebounds from Jaylyn Coequyt.
