NEW ULM — Brooklyn Mauch exploded for five goals along with two assists to lead the No. 7 girls hockey team to a 9-1 Big South Conference win Tuesday night on the road. The Tigers ultimately put the game away after taking a 7-1 lead after the first two periods.

The Tigers’ offensive power was too much for the Eagles to handle and overcome, as Marshall outshot New Ulm 59-4.

Abbey Foley also had a pair of assists on the night, while Peyton DeMuth had another two goals to partner with Mauch. Ava Kolander and Lucie Pearson also finished with one goal each.

Pearson was the first to get Marshall on the board in the ninth minute of the first period, assisted by Mauch and Foley, with Mauch scoring 19 seconds later. Kolander finished off the first period with one second left, scoring with an assist from Nora Holmgren and Elsie Deutz.

Mauch scored Marshall’s next three goals consecutively in the second period, capped off by DeMuth in the 13th minute. New Ulm scored a goal to open the second period 27 seconds in.

Mauch and DeMuth each scored once more in the final period to finish off the night.

Marshall also played a clean game, committing no penalties, to New Ulm’s five. All of the Tigers’ goals came on even strength.

Marshall improves to 18-4, and will return home to host South Central (0-13) on Friday at 6 p.m. The Tigers’ final regular season home game is slated for next Thursday against New Ulm once more for senior night.
