Mauch scores goal No. 50 in Tigers’ win over Willmar
WILLMAR — Brooklyn Mauch took less than 20 seconds to score the first goal of the day in the No. 6 Marshall girls hockey team’s non-conference matchup against Willmar on Friday, finishing with a hat trick to get her first 50-goal season and lead the Tigers to a 4-0 road victory.
Mauch capitalized on a feed from Peyton DeMuth and Ava Kolander to get the Tigers on the scoreboard 17 seconds into the game. She added another goal, assisted by Abbey Foley and Avery Kesteloot, halfway through the second, and she capped off the hat trick on a goal assisted by Eme DeMuth five minutes into the third period.
Mauch now has 52 goals on the season and a total of 79 points. Her previous career-high for goals was 48 points last year, and she is currently just shy of her 83-point mark from last season.
In addition to assisting the game’s first goal, Peyton DeMuth also scored the game’s final goal with two minutes to play, assisted by Foley and Kesteloot. Foley currently leads the state in assists, per Minnesota Girls Hockey Hub, with 34.
Lily Stelter saved each of the five shots she faced for her sixth shutout of the season, moving her into a tie for third in the state in goalie wins this season, according to Hockey Hub.
Marshall improves to 17-4-0 (7-1-0 Big South) on the year with the win and next goes on the road to take on New Ulm (4-11-1, 3-4-1 BSC) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
