Marshall boys come up short to Mankato West

MANKATO — The Marshall boys basketball team wasn’t able to get back to .500 on Tuesday, falling 72-59 to Mankato West in Big South play.

Oliver Voigt was the lone Tiger to score in double figures, finishing with 23 points on 10 of 17 shooting. His six rebounds were also a team-high.

Levi Maeyaert and Patrick Morman also contributed 9 and 8 points for the Tigers in the loss.

Marshall (7-9) plays the third of five consecutive road games on Friday, taking on Waseca (11-6) at 7:15 p.m.

Canby 71, RRC 64

TYLER — Henry Stavnes made his 1,000th career point and scored 36 in a competitive battle with Canby Tuesday night. The Lancers ultimately came away with a 71-64 non-conference win after hitting a series of late free throws.

Tuesday’s game was originally slated to take place in Lamberton on the Falcons’ home court, but was played in Tyler due to a mechanical issue at RRC.

Owen Peterson led Canby’s scorers with 21 points on 8 of 22 shooting while Jace Rangaard added 16 points on 4 of 9 shooting and Hunter Kack chipped in 15 on 4 of 8.

Peterson and Rangaard each grabbed eight rebounds for Canby, and Peterson also dished out five assists and blocked three shots.

Finn Batalden also finished with 15 points, while Jordan Therkilsen had seven rebounds and three assists. Carter Therkilsen had a team-high eight rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Red Rock Central (5-13) looks to get back in the win column when it welcomes Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda (3-13) into Lamberton on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

Canby (3-14) will look to keep its stride going when it hosts Yellow Medicine East (2-13) on Monday at 7:15 p.m.

KMS 81, YME 29

KERKHOVEN — The Yellow Medicine East boys basketball team had no answer for Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Tuesday night, falling 81-29 in Camden Conference play.

Kia GreyCloud led the YME scorers with 11 points on 4 of 13 shooting and snagged five steals on the defensive end. Cooper McCosh led YME on the glass with five rebounds.

Yellow Medicine East (2-13) returns to action with a road game against Minneota (3-12) on Friday at 7 p.m.

MCC 69, Lakeview 39

SLAYTON — Tayden Beerman’s scoring efficiency helped the Murray County Central boys basketball team pull away in the second half for a 69-39 non-conference win over Lakeview on Tuesday.

Beerman led MCC with 23 points on the day, shooting 7 of 12 from 3-point range to pace the MCC scorers. The Rebels also got 12 points from Aiden Swenson and a team-leading five rebounds each from Krew Schneider and Wyatt Thompson.

Trevor Tusberg finished as Lakeview’s leading scorer with 12 points, followed by 11 from Cody Helmke.

Murray County Central (10-4) looks to extend its winning streak to five games when it hosts Southwest Minnesota Christian (12-2) on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

Lakeview (6-12) returns to Cottonwood to host Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart (1-12) for a non-conference matchup on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

No. 9 Wabasso 105, SESM 77

WABASSO — Caden Frericks put together a 20-20 double-double on Tuesday night as the No. 9 Wabasso boys basketball team ran away with a 105-77 Tomahawk Conference win over Sleepy Eye.

Frericks finished with 27 total rebounds, and his 17 offensive rebounds were by himself more than St. Mary’s team total of 10. He also scored 21 points on 8 of 10 shooting and dished out five assists.

Brayden Guetter was at the head of the Rabbits’ scoring efforts with 33 points on 15 of 26 shooting, as well as eight rebounds and three assists. Drew Kemp, meanwhile, dished out a team-high six assists with 23 points.

Wabasso (16-1) faces another strong opponent on Thursday, hosting Dawson-Boyd (13-3) at 7:30 p.m.

SWMC 68, Minneota 55

EDGERTON — The Minneota boys basketball team suffered a 68-55 non-conference loss to Southwest Minnesota Christian Tuesday night on the road.

Stats for Minneota were unavailable at the time of publication.

Minneota (3-13) aims to end its five-game skid when it heads to Madison to face off against Lac qui Parle Valley (1-17) on Thursday at 7 p.m.
