Liebl, Malecek combine for 51 as Blackjacks top TMB

No. 10 Dawson-Boyd 94, TMB 69

DAWSON — Landon Malecek and Gunner Liebl combined for 51 points on Tuesday night as the No. 10 Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team ran away with a 94-69 Camden Conference win over Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.

Malecek was perfect from the field on the night, shooting 13 of 13 for a game-high 26 points. His 10 total and five offensive rebounds were both team-highs, as were his four blocks on the defensive side of the ball.

Dawson-Boyd finished with nine blocks as a team, limiting TMB to 38% shooting from the field compared to the Blackjacks’ 55% clip.

Liebl also scored 25 points on 9 of 23 shooting and dished out eight assists on two turnovers. His eight rebounds ranked second on the team.

Griffin Zick led the Panthers with 25 points on 7 of 20 shooting from the field. Connor Lanoue also scored 13 points while Jackson Kruse grabbed six rebounds and tied Emery Xiong with a team-high four assists.

Dawson-Boyd’s scoring success came largely from its willingness to share the ball. Jaxton Hastad dished out seven assists on one turnover, also scoring 18 points on 8 of 9 shooting, while Carson Stratmoen contributed another five assists with three steals.

Dawson-Boyd (11-2) heads out on the road to take on Renville County West (8-3) at 7:30 p.m.

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (6-7) aims to get back to .500 when it hosts Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (8-2) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

KMS 77, Lakeview 40

KERKHOVEN — The Lakeview boys basketball team couldn’t get into an offensive rhythm against Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Tuesday, falling 77-40 in Camden Conference play.

Braylon Breyfogle was the Lakers’ leading scorer with 13 points in the game while Ian Taylor and Trevor Tusberg each contributed another 7.

Lakeview (5-10) next competes on Friday when it welcomes Lac qui Parle Valley (0-13) into Cottonwood at 7:30 p.m.

MACCRAY 52, YME 45

CLARA CITY — The Yellow Medicine East boys basketball team fell shy of getting back in the win column on Tuesday, dropping 52-45 against MACCRAY.

Gavin Torvik and Gunnar Fagen finished as the Sting’s leading scorers in the game, logging 16 points on 6 of 18 shooting and 14 points on 5 of 15 shooting, respectively.

Cooper McCosh grabbed 12 rebounds in the game, six on the offensive glass and six on the defensive, while Fagen and Kia Greycloud added nine and eight.

Greycloud also blocked a pair of shots and logged two steals.

Yellow Medicine East (2-9) gets back to Granite Falls for its next matchup, taking on Ortonville (4-8) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

No. 9 Wabasso 82, GFW 48

GIBBON — The ninth-ranked Wabasso boys basketball team keeps cruising along, and picked up an 84-48 win over Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop Tuesday night powered by Brayden Guetter and Caden Frericks’ double-doubles.

Guetter led the team with 22 points to his 12 rebounds, while Freicks had a team-high 19 boards, three blocks and three steals to his 18 points. Drew Kemp also added in another 18 points, and shot 3 of 5 from the perimeter.

Brady Baune also finished in double figures with 13 points, and Jayden Remiger grabbed six rebounds as well for the Rabbits.

Wabasso finished the night with 46 rebounds, nine steals and five blocks.

The Rabbits remain undefeated and improve to 12-0, and will stay on the road to take on Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

LQPV 77, Canby 68

MADISON — Owen Peterson and Hunter Kack’s combined 49 points weren’t quite enough to lift the Canby boys basketball team in a 77-68 Camden Conference loss Tuesday night. The win was the Eagles’ first of the season, while the Lancers were looking to end an eight-game skid.

Peterson led the Lancers with 29 points behind five 3-pointers, along with a team-high seven steals.

Kack had 20 points with four 3s, along with six assists and six steals.

Peterson and Matthew Zitzmann shared a team-high four rebounds each, while Will Abrahamson led the Lancers with seven assists.

Canby falls to 1-10 on the season, and will next return home to host MACCRAY (5-9) on Friday at 7:15 p.m.

Ortonville 87, Minneota 69

ORTONVILLE –The Minneota boys basketball team fell 87-69 in a Camden Conference matchup against Lac qui Parle Valley on Tuesday. Stats were not available at the time of publication.

Minneota (3-9) returns to its home court to host No. 7 Central Minnesota Christian (11-1) on Friday at 7 p.m.
