HUTCHINSON — Tyler Kraft, Brayden Chandler and Lincoln Christenson each earned runner-up finishes at the Hutchinson Invitational on Saturday to pace the Marshall boys wrestling team to a sixth-place finish at the 15-team event.

The Tigers finished with a team score of 198.5, putting them just 4.5 points behind Mankato Loyola and 8 points ahead of Foley. Willmar won the tournament with 431.5 points, followed by Watertown Mayer-Mayer Lutheran at 318.5, Hutchinson at 271 and Waseca at 232.5.

In a pool format for the 121-pound bracket, Christenson earned two pins and a technical fall in his first three matches to advance to the championship, but fell via 7-1 decision to University of Minnesota-commit Joel Friederichs of WMML in the championship round.

Chandler’s 160-pound weight class and Kraft’s 189-pound weight class were both in the traditional bracket format. Chandler pinned each of his first two opponents before falling to Cavin Carlson via 19-3 tech fall in the championship, while Kraft earned a pin and a 3-0 decision before falling to William Gutormson of Foley in the championship match via 13-9 decision.

In addition to the Tigers’ trio of runner-up finishes, they also got third-place performances from Andrew Yang in 114, Keynan Coequyt in 127 and Dawson DeCamp in 145. Tyson Louwagie also placed fourth in 152.

Levi Kraft, Gavin Williams and Felix Kelsey each finished with a sixth-place medal.

Marshall wrestling goes on the road for a dual against Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial tonight at 6 p.m.
